[rquoter]CQ: Hastings to Drop Bid for Intel Chair
    By Justin Rood - November 28, 2006, 1:58 PM

Congressional Quarterly's Tim Starks has the scoop:

House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi was to meet with Rep. Alcee L. Hastings late Tuesday to close the door on his bid to become chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, a congressional aide said.

But Pelosi, D-Calif., has not yet decided who will get the job, according to the aide. . . .

Pelosi met with Harman two weeks ago to discuss the House Intelligence Committee chair job. There is little to suggest Pelosi will reverse her intention to replace Harman atop the panel.[/rquoter]

I really don't care. For this to be an issue for the House Dems is flat out silly.

I agree that it's good news, basso. The Democrats need to prove to the country that with their return to power in Congress, it's NOT business as usual, but truly a change from the path both parties have taken in the past. Just as Murtha had baggage, so does Hastings. Time to lose the baggage.

I don't expect my party to work miracles regarding K Street, but I expect us to turn it into a narrow country lane, compared to the interstate freeway it's been under the GOP. We should expect nothing less, and if we don't get it, raising hell is in order.

I think basso would be honestly pleased if the Democratic Congress ends up doing a good job. I'll be mildly astonished, myself. Right now I'm mildly optimistic, and ecstatic that the old corrupt regime is being shown the door. Time for positive change, and I think we'll get it.

One of Bush's legacies will be providing a canvas for the Democratic painting. In short, he will make us look good, if only because he's so damned bad. We need to do better than just being better.

i'd be delighted if anyone did good, i really am independent that way. now we need to get rid of the old guard in both parties. trent lott, robert byrd, charlie "our troops is stupid" rangel" would be good starts.
