I sure like to know TMac is willing to be Yao's sidekick, but I also hope he still remembers he is getting paid 20 millions a year. 15 pts? That's too little.

i think this might explain where tracy is dishing out more assists and taking the spotlight away from him...i think he's taking a different approach and being very unselfish...and what has this done? this has popped open the potential of chuck hayes and elevates team spirit...great since we've got such a different team this year...maybe tracy's low ppg is a blessing in disguise...

I think as the season advances we'll see Mac exert himself more and more and in fact we've seen a few 24-25 point outbursts from him. He has to be willing to take over the 4th Qtr and not allow the team to just fling 3 point shots at the rim. JVG wants him to attack the rim more during this time and damn it...our team just seems to struggle to get off 70 shots per game. Mac and Yao both need close to 20 shots per game and that's not happening because Alston is ending up with 15 shots in many of the games. Shane never looks to shoot and that hurts us because on those occassions when he has to shoot...he looks lost finding his shot.

Come on Mac...find your rhythm and your touch and help Yao more beginning tonight against Eddie Jones...

The comment from Doug Collins tells you everything you need to know about why Doug Collins never won anything.

A coach who was born to be a color commentator. I'll take the playa who understands the game.

Personally I think T-Mac should be scoring at least 20-25 a game and as in years past running and dominating the 4th quarter offense. Many times, Yao just cannot finish as effectively in the fourth and that's what McGrady used to be the best at.

As for his regular season play and his averages of under 20, I think he's just trying to save it for the playoffs. He has a career playoff average of 29.8 PPG which is 2nd only to Jordan and Iverson. We know what kind of talent this guy has, and we know what he does in the playoffs. I can't even wait for the playoffs, simply because I know T-Mac will play with full motivation and that's all you need to see from him to know he can be the best player in the league.

You have to keep in mind that he had such a bad start to the season in terms of offensive efficiency, shooting roughly 35% from the field in the first five or six games.

However, his FG% is now up to roughly 42% after roughly 12 games, so he had to be shooting a relatively good percentage from the floor over the last five games or so in order to raise his average by that much.

People are saying that he has to improve his shooting based on his current average, but they're ignoring that he's come a long way since the first half-dozen games and has significantly improved his shooting since then.

Given time, his fg% will likely hover around 45% or so, which is pretty good and roughly his career average (and Kobe's career average, as well).

This is exactly the kind of simplistic thinking that often gets teams in trouble.

We're 8-4 in a tough stretch of games, and if it wasn't for McGrady's ball-handling and distribution abilities, not to mention the double-teams he commands, the Rockets wouldn't be doing half as good as they are now.

I might be in the minority, but I am a huge fan of what he's doing right now. He's finding a sweet balance between sharing the ball and scoring it. He's playing better-than-average defense and rebounding like crazy on most nights, not to mention getting close to double-digit assists.

I don't understand the complaints, except that some people would rather have McGrady "get his" than find the best way to rack up W's for this team.

I will take the way we're playing right now, and the way he's playing, over McGrady looking to score 30 per night, which he is STILL more than capable of doing and has done at times this season.

Those who're saying that he's taking a second role because he "has no choice" are delusional and unappreciative of the guy's vision for what this team can be.

Big men are the anchors to winning championships, T-Mac understands it, he's been through much in his career and knows exactly what it would take to win: feeding the dominant big man.

Of course, on nights where he's really feeling it, he will assert himself more offensively.

The guy is doing a very good job balancing his game for the benefit of his team. I think he's close to 'maximizing' the effectiveness of his skill set, hes using every weapon he has and it's paying off for the team.

Some of you need to stop looking at stats and actually watch the games for a change...

You've got to give credit to McGrady, few superstars would be willing to take a less prominent role like he has. But I think he could still maintain a higher point average if his shot wasn't off. In a perfect world I wish Tmac would still make an attack every time he gets the ball. Nothing open? Dish off for the assist. It's kind of been like that anyways on some plays, but I think w/ Tmac still not exactly being the Tmac of old, he may be looking to pass first in the first place. Despite all this playmaker/second option talk, he's STILL averaging near 20 points!

    why can't we have both?

you know.. the Tmac from the Dallas playoffs.. and the Yao since last years all star break.. we've replaced everyone else unimportant.. and added some key players and youth.. we need both of them to be superstars. I am not talking about just scoring.. but taking over 4qtrs, game winning shots, etc. He has less coverage here than in Orlando.. with less to double or triple him now.. hopefully get that fire again soon!

to Tmac: your time to get rid of all the old "never made it out of the first round" talk is now.. it needs to end.. please! I can't take it anymore.. I need to put people in there place (Houstonian living in Chicago).. heh We're rooting for your old self to comeback.. I know it takes five.. but... every little bit helps

The way I read him is that he don't have alot of confidence in Yao to be that go to guy in the playoffs. Think about it, do you think he would say that if Shaq was on this team.

Think about what? Please think about the context when he mentioned that. It's in the late 4th Q ! Shaq? Let Shaq be the go to guy then? He would be the liability considering his horrible FT. I would hack Shaq if he is on the court in a tight game down to the stretch in 4th Q.

Just when said he doesn't care about not being a scoring champion, he said he's one step slower now. Bad timing ay!
