    so what if the lady took the money and bought a house back in her home city of New Orleans? I don't really think that would be all that bad...

    I think the key point is that they told the church they wanted to settle in Memphis, and then sold the place and left without having moved in. Implies this was pre-meditated to fool the congregation.

    They turned a profit.

    It doesn't diminish the gift in any way....the Church did a noble deed, what goes on after the deed is not their fault.

    They should feel good about what they did....and the people that got the house did what was best for themselves.

    No harm, no foul.

    My feeling is, these evacuees made the notion they would 'settle' and have their 'new start' in their 'new home'. They probably pleaded their case and won the house. I'm sure there was some level of deception or atleast a reason for the Church members to feel betrayal. IMHO it sounds shady to me.
