Anyone caught this yet? I saw it earlier today and really enjoyed it. Certainly not your typical over the top Will Ferrell movie. Dustin Hoffman was solid as well.
watched this movie last friday before I wasted my time skipping to Borat this movie was suprisingly good. ferrell had a awesome performance and the plot was interesting and also think maggie gyllehhal is cute as hell in this movie. I'd recommended this to anyone but don't expect your typical farrell humor in this movie
Yes, the great acting of Ferrell, Hoffman and Emma Thompson really propelled this outlandish tale. Great acting is not always a necessity in the success of this type of movie, but it surely makes it very enjoyable. I love that he shattered his type caset. Will Ferrell is great in this one. But......... I was told how "great" the ending was, and it just seemed a bit lackluster as opposed to what I expected. But overall, a good film, good writing, good acting. 8.5
Saw this today. I'm a bit surprised the critics haven't been praising this one a little more (while rotten tomatoes has this at a 76, it feels like it ought to be closer to 90). I thought it was great. Emma Thompson is a wonderful actress. I thought Dustin Hoffman might have played his part just a bit over the top and Queen Latifah was a bit under-used, but their characters, like the film itself, were thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless. Ferrell did just fine pulling a Jim Carrey and playing a more serious role. He plays an "everyman" character better than Carrey imo. And, Arrested Development fans, "Buster" (Tony Hale) has a part in this film as Will Ferrell's co-worker and friend. This is not worthy of a best film nom at the Oscars, but the writing and acting, top to bottom, was superb imo. It had the vibe of a Charlie Kaufman script without the weirdness of a Michael Gondry final product, and that ought to make its appeal a bit more mainstream. Perhaps critics call this "unchallenging" to an audience. It still had me thinking of Adaptation, Spotless Mind, and Truman Show, and while Fiction is maybe only better than the first of those three, I still thought it was a satisfying movie.
