I got this CD from a friend today and I been through it twice. I have to say that it is quite possibly THE best Beatles CD. The story is the band's original producer, Sir George Martin, and his son Giles got permission from all the various parties to go back into the Beatles vault and re-mix, re-cut and remaster various Beatles songs to produce this album and the soundtrack for the Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas. You can argue that it's blasphme or it's over produced or whatever, but you'd have to admit it's stuningly beautiful. If you take my advice and listen to it, listen to the whole thing uninterrupted. It's worth it. If you want to give music for Christmas, I think this CD would be universally well received. Also , I wouldn't feel too bad about sampling it somewhere for free. They are selling out every performance in Vegas at $100 a pop. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QTeI6JKO1HA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QTeI6JKO1HA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Sounds nice. Does Michael Jackson still own the Beatles songs? If so, I'm guessing he gets his cut, right?
Didn't realize I was on so many people's ignore list http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=120555
haha. i had no idea about this album till i read your thread the other day but i went and checked out everything i could on it afterwards, just forgot to reply about it. anyways it sounds awesome. granted i'll probably love most anything beatle related but i'm pumped about picking up the cd tomorrow. that within you without you/tomorrow never knows combo is very sweet.
I respectfully disagree. This isn't the best Beatles mash-up, even. The Super Furry Animals were given access to Beatles tapes, mostly conversations and rehearsals, and they made a really great mash-up. Dangermouse's "Grey Album" is even better. I think "Love" sounds really, really great, but they don't really do much with the format. It's very safe, if really pleasant. This does make me very excited about the remastering project that is supposed to take place with the Beatles catalogue next year.
Sorry Bob, I look at the Hangout most every day and you are not on my ignor list but somehow I wiffed you thread. I just listened to the whole CD yestereday and got teh excited. I'm not too hip but the only 'mashups' I've ever heard sucked unless this CD fits the definition. Since Sir George was actually the main creative force behind the orchestration of the Beatles, as on Sargent Peppers, I sort of think of this CD as just a different album from the same materials like a painter painting the same field of flowers with the same paints but shifting the colors and using different details and highlights. Here's Sir Georges opinions on 'mashups'
Whereas I think of it as yet another Beatles product churned out just in time for the holiday season. Waste of plastic made to cash in on the lowest common denominator.
I don't blame you, we are almost 40 years removed from The Beatles as revolutionary artist. This is certainly a corporate collaboration between Apple and Cirque DeSolei intended to make money; it's a Vegas show for god's sake. But the music is timeless, it needed some digital remastering, Sir George is a certified genius in the studio, and for those of us who know and love every note of every song The Beatles ever did, it allows us a new sense of suprise and wonder. And it's just damn good. I'm not an afficianado of classical music but I guess there are occasions when someone will bring out a new interpretation of Bethoven or something that rocks the classical world. This is sort of the same thing. Maybe someday Butch Vig will do a remaster of the old Nirvana tapes ( and the money will go to Courtney Love)
hahaha. Butch Vig did his best to ruin "Nevermind", so let's hope that never happens. One of the worst sounding records I've ever heard. Very compressed and slick sounding. The guy obvious has cred, but on that recording it sounds like he was completely unfamiliar with the concept of rock and roll.
i dunno. kind of partial to this one. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KIWsMKZt3Eg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KIWsMKZt3Eg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
