Isn't it so inconvenient when facts got in the way of one's rant?

Please name the Chucky haters. I have been a supporter of his almost from day 1.

This is normal exploration of all the options.

Translation: "JVG negated all the homework I did on Hayes by cutting him. Gundy was an idiot for doing that, and I have been trying to rescue the situation ever since."

    1. Dig up the threads if you got time. OMR, for one, still doesn't believe in Chuck Hayes being an impact player. Plenty of people also were not happy when Swift didn't see his minutes increase after Yao got hurt in April and instead the minutes went to Chuck.

    2. That option's been explored. Rockets had him, he sucked. Case closed.

JVG wasn't happy about it, but he recognized it. The article was from Jan 31, 2006

The problem probably wasn't that JVG didn't want him, but instead that there just wasn't space for him on the roster until people started getting hurt.

I am just speculating of course. But I think anyone with basketball smarts that watches Chuck play for half a game can see the type of contribution he will make. That's all it took for me to become a fan back when he was in college.

Translation: I did not read the part that said "AND HE WAS HURT."

    http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/chuck_hayes/game_by_game_stats.html

Upon a review of Chuck Hayes' game by bame stat at the NBADL last season, he missed games between December 4th and December 16th, returned briefly for 2 games and missed the games December 18th and December 30th.

So sometime after December 4th is likely what CD meant by "and he was hurt". Most likely, CD was talking about when Yao first got hurt with the infected toe and they could use an extra big man, but Hayes was hurt.

In the end, Chuck Hayes returned to NBADL action on December 30th and got called up on January 18th. He played heavy minutes right away due to Yao's injury.

Not too bad for a undrafted rookie?

Well Chuck, at least you got something out of Shaq too... :p

MIAMI (AP) - Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal had surgery Sunday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee and will be sidelined four to six weeks.

The procedure lasted about 45 minutes, and was performed by team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick. O'Neal injured the knee in a collision with Houston's Chuck Hayes last Sunday.

The 13-time All-Star averaged 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in his first four games for the defending NBA champions. He is expected to begin rehabilitation this week.

Actually, Hayes was last year's Novak/VSpan. Many posters wanted him to play more. I was one of them. I am very proud of him this year. Get well soon and come back, chuck, you make a huge difference out there. :)

Bucks and Knicks mader their run. But if you look at the gameflow charts, they made the run when Chuck was ON THE BENCH .

    http://popcornmachine.net/cgi-bin/gameflow.cgi?date=20061110&game=NYKHOU

    http://popcornmachine.net/cgi-bin/gameflow.cgi?date=20061108&game=HOUMIL

Chuck only played around 5 minuts total 4th quarter minutes in those two games, and Rockets didn't lose ground in those 5 minutes.

I could never understand why JVG keep playing Alston and Head together in the 4th quarter. Our peremeter defense is non-exist when those two play togeter. And we got burned by guys like Redd, Gorden, Crawford, Hamilton and Billups, all peremeter guys.

Yes, and he is a winner as is Battier. With those two on the court our team plays with a much more intense attitude and you can tell they will not let them lose mainly because of these two competitors who bring intangibles and tangibles every single night.

Stop right here! Hope you remember he is the one insisted on cutting Chucky last year, despite plea from Lindsey. He is just so bias against rookies. If he had his way (TMac and Yao not injured last year), Luther may still mop the floor right now.

Look around the league, Rox is dead last in using this year's rookies, does it mean Rox has the deepest bench in the league? hardly so!

After going over the constent VSpan and Novak must be given a chance, I have come the conclusion that the only way things will change will be if JVG and his staff go back NYK. Can we trade our coaching staff for the NYK staff?? :D

You were the one who threw out the claim that the BBS had lots of Chucky haters. It's the Ann Coulter technique: snow your opponent with obscure and frequently bogus information. Are you unwilling to back up your own words?

You like Chucky, I assume? We cut him -- and then we uncut him. We would have been stupid to close his case forever after the cut.

Now I happen to agree that the Mo Taylor we had would not be a big help today. But players change, and the team situation can also change. It's usually a good idea to keep exploring our options.

We have Tmac-Yao duo, we also own Juwan-Pagget duo. So Chuck is the man to change the balance. :)

Non responsive. You pretended to counter my translation by talking about something completely different. Where did you learn your debating tricks?

I will repeat my translation (of CD's words): "JVG negated all the homework I did on Hayes by cutting him. Gundy was an idiot for doing that, and I have been trying to rescue the situation ever since."

What was wrong with that? Remember, CD said, "From the moment we cut him, we tried to get him back."

The messages are not on file any more, so I can't look back and specifically single out the Chuck critics.

However, I do remember thread after thread of "We need a starting PF-- we need to sign Al Harrington or whoever the high priced FA is"... then when I said "We got one, his name is Chuck Hayes. Look at his +/-, look at his rebounding stats, look at how well he plays with Yao. Why would you overpay when Chuck is an impact player and he makes minimum wage"

I was accused of being a Morey/Moneyball blind follower (partly from my first post being in the moneyball thread, I guess), math geek who doesn't watch real games.

I was accused of being an apologist of Les Alexander being cheap.

Chuck Hayes doubter are there. They are vicious like capitalists.

Also, we cut Hayes in preseason, tried to get him back a month or so later (but he was hurt). Finally, when he got healthy and played a few more DLeague games, he hooked up with the team for good and got floor time while Yao was out-- floor time that didn't go to Swift, didn't go to Bowen.

During the preseason, remember everyone was hyped about Stro/Yao being the frontline? Did anyone plead the case for Chuck Hayes when he was cut? I don't recall too many people actually giving a **** about Hayes... there were more outcries for "Why the hell did we trade DA for Gerald Fitch" than there were for Hayes.

Unless you knew right then in preseason that Hayes is going to be an intergral part of the rotation, then you don't have any more foresights into Hayes than JVG.

hate to be negative, but chuck usually has 5 fouls going in to the 4th quarter of games? Esp. if he is mismatched and has to guard someone whose got half a foot on him? If he won't get major minutes because of foul trouble I'd say bring him on as a starter, play him sporadically mid-game, and make him a 4th quarter player, if he is that effective. Seems to me he is the kind of player who needs needs no time warming up or getting the feel of the game - as soon as he checks in he is full throttle, lol...
