I am currently at my mother's house using her computer because my Internet connection is acting up.

The Internet will not connect at all most of the time, I have tried IE and Firefox, and when it does connect it is way slower than even dial-up. When I finally connected to the BBS last night it took over 12 minutes and some parts of the page didn't even load.

    First, here are the specs:

My computer's Ethernet connection is built in the motherboard, an ASRock AS17. My modem is an AMBIT 60678EU and my ISP is SuddenLink (formerly Cox Communications). The modem has 7 lights: Power (on and solid) USB (off) Enet (blinking very fast) Send (blinking very slow, once every 30 secs. or so) Recv (on and solid) Sync (on and solid) Ready (on and solid)

I have done a System Restore, restarted my PC, and even turn it off and left it off for hours. I also did the same thing for the modem.

Skype is able to connect but AVG Update, Yahoo! Messenger, and G-Mail notifier do not and G-Mail notifier says something about not being able to find DNS server but I don't think that is on my end. I have also tried to repair my connect but when it tries to renew the IP address it fails but it says my connection is fine. When I do restart, Windows tries to install updates but is also unable to do so.

So does this sound like something is wrong with my computer at home or is it on my ISP's end? I don't know anybody else who has cable Internet, everybody I know has DSL or dial-up. If it is on my end, what could be the problem? If it is on my ISP's end I'll give them a call.

    Thanks for any help.

why didn't you call your ISP before reformatting? sounds like it's on their end.

edit: n/m, misread. you just restored so it's no big deal. call your ISP.

Have you checked for Spyware, Malware, and Adware?

You may have multiple processes running taking all of your resources.

Yes, check the CPU % to see how many processes are running.

Prob ISP end, call them ask them to come out and have someone look. Had a problem like that over the summer. Internet would just go out and quite often for periods of times. Finally called someone, they ended up coming out looking and it was something with their cable wire ends and they were screwy and it was messing with the connection or something like that. So they re did them and it has worked ever since.
