so i was listening to Full Court Press (Ian Eagle/Kenny Smith/Mitch Lawrence)
on Sirius this afternoon and they had Chuck Hayes on.

Chuck mentions that he'll be back in 2 weeks
-says running into Shaq, he knew he would get hurt, luckily not that bad
-favorite player earlier was Barkley, but now is Jason Kidd
-says that he learned at Kentucky that he was really good at the hustle stuff like rebounds, defense etc
-says that he thought Tuby Smith knew alot about basketball, but JVG is way more knowledgable and detailed
-says he feels privileged to play with Tmac and Yao

Ive always heard the same thing, JVG is the best detail coach theyve ever had.
He shouldnt feel privileged to play with t-mac and yao cause hes a part of the team. Also jason kidd rumours 2 year ago about him coming here probably and if he did join would have made hayes estatic as a player.
Jason Kidd, Yao and t-mac. Damn vince carter for ruining that party like u ruined raptors franchise.

I love this show on Sirius. They have been heavy on Rockets talk the past week, with mostly a lot of good things to say about Yao and the Rockets. Mitch Lawrence and Kenny Smith still seem to hate on Yao. I really think Kenny has something against forgien born players and Mitch Lawrence even went to far as say that Yao was over-hyped and that he would trade Ray Allen for Yao.

Kenny mentioned that was 1st on the Yao bandwagon (remember the Charles kissing thing?), but yeah he usually says Shaq is better than Yao.

I like it when Kenny starts talking about random stuff too.

That's a good combo, Charles and Jason. If he gets their rebounding and passing skills, he's money.

Kid was never going to come here. He implied that he wanted out, listed us as one possibilty. But that was never going to happen. Outside Yao and Mac, we had nobody to trade for him. We cant afford him as a free agent either. So it will never happen.

This is what I don't get. Yao was never hyped. Hype usually involves something positive like Lebron james before he entered the NBA. Since draft day Yao was labelled a bust, the next shawn bradley, a foreign stiff, etc. The media was never positive about Yao early on. He got a lot of media attention, but most of it negative and this shouldn't be confused with hype.

there have major Rockets talk on the show, both are what you expected they are talking about:

    1. Tmac - talking about Tmac's bad performance so far this year and how he mentioned that he and Kobe were old
    2. Yao - major debates on if hes better than Shaq or Dwight Howard etc

    C.HAYES: MVP OF THE rockets.
WHEN rox win THE championship this year, and when YAO SCORES > 30 per game this year, and become a MVP OF THE YEAR, he must remember his most important teammates: T-mc and C.HAYES. CAUSE WITHOUT THEM, yao is just a s***.
CHUCK HAYES + YAO----> YAO SCORES > 30 AT least
    ....+ YAO -----> yao scores > 20
conclusion: C. HAYES is the yao's motivation, cause he's fast, and he's Yao's shadow, he gives yao the courage and confidence, he gives the ball to yao and put Yao to score like a machine.
Without HAYES, Rox lost his superpower, and become a soft team...
So come back Hayes, you are the MVP OF THE ROCKETS, and YAO needs you to become a superstar, you motive him like a mouse motives a cat, without you, he's just a blind score-machine.

Well, sometime even negative press can hype someone also, look at Vince Young pre-draft negative coverage (wonderlic scores, game doesn't translate well into the NFL, bad side arm throw etc), but still it generated enough buzz that makes people aware of him and magnifies everything he does. How many casual fans know or care how well Phillip Rivers is doing? But most will pass some judgement on Vince Young? Marques Colston and Andre Johnson are leading the leagues in yards receiving, but most don't even know who they are, but everyone knows T.O.

Same with Yao, positive (pre-draft workouts that went well) and negative (almost everything else) media coverages filled ESPN leading up to the draft. To most players, that attention = hype, and after he started to produce, he started to get more attention, positive and negative and everything he does is magnified.

Look at Baron Davis and Steve Francis early on, both put up similiar numbers, but because of good (dunk contest, flash)as well as bad (super bowl, showboating, league leader in techs (2nd place)), you have to admit Steve was getting a lot more coverage and in-turn exposure than Baron Davis.
