Both Head and Alston are doing a great job shooting and defensively. Head spreads the court much better than the other 2. Spanoulis is almost averaging a turnover every 2 minutes of play in the preseason and is out of control for the most part. Once he learn to keep in control, he could be a part of the rotation and eventually, a good starter. Until then, you don't sacrifice a win streak because he was "hyped," which he was not.
JONATHAN FEIGEN will tell you why: Not that anyone ever suspected that Jeff Van Gundy is wary of rookie mistakes, but when speaking of last season's Knicks, he offered this week's finishing quote. "Everybody gets excited about youth except the coach, because he knows youth means mistakes, mistakes mean losses, losses mean you're fired. While everyone else was pumped up, "We got four rookies, we got four rookies,' you know, my (backside) ain't going to be here very long."
I don't agree with either of the two opposites. And yes I'm a Greek fan, I'd be thrilled to see our guy play, but NOT for national pride(which to me is somewhat insulting, insinuating our guy is for the dumbster, if he's going to get minutes JUST for Greeks to feel proud and NOT cause he'll deserve it and play well, to which, so far most have preseason stats ONLY). I do believe he should play at least some minutes(unless he proves that good, so of course he should get some minutes more), but that's cause I believe that of all rookies, eg Novak, call it European mentality. Clearly there are people here that believe Spanoulis is crap and should stay in the bench so he can up his stats from there(where obviously, if he does, all people will ever talk about will be his 2006-07 preseason stats, even if we'll be talking 2008 or 2009). And there are people that believe he's the best thing around since Sura9better even), which might or might not be the truth. I like to believe his abilities are for now somewhere in the middle. I don't want him to see playing time and i'll be waiting for it throughout the season. What only saddens me, is the possibility with such little playing time he's getting so far, maybe his break will be for a game he might not be able to deliver as desired and the nay-sayers will grasp the opportunity(from a game alone) for a grandiose "I TOLD YOU SO!".
maybe the original poster wants to make a song for V-SPAN in the tune of the Yao Ming song, but he needs to play.
Due to his talent and his potential Span deserves at least playing more tha 1 minute, when we are winning by 20, especialy in view of the facht that he might develop into a key player for the future. Concerning the comparison with Rafer,Head and JL3: Span is the best defender, the most aggressive player with the best penetration abilities and the best court vision. I am sure that in a season game he will play without unnecessary risk and I am sure that within the last weeks he managed to get travelling into control. Those of you who claim that his game is out of control seem not to have watched him ever play.
I don't think he's "crap" at all. I just think he's young and inexperienced....like every other rookie in the league. I hope he and Novak will get some playing time eventually, and I think they will. My point is that we're playing well as a team and trying to develop chemistry with the regular rotation players. The guy in front of him (Alston) is playing well, so why take minutes away from him? Especially in the midst of a winning streak? Every team in the NBA has a 7, 8, or 9 man (at the most) rotation. That's just the way it is. You can't play everyone every night.
Although Spanoulis needs to adapt to the NBA Game, I don't see any adapting going on as JVG seems to, unfortunately, have a prejduice against the Point Guard who showed the USA Team in the World Championships how to play exciting and uptempo basketball. I just hope that JVG will find a slot for V Span to play, so that he can demonstrate his great ability. Steve Novak could be Rookie of the Year but without JVG believing in him he won't even have a chance to try.Other than these two items JVG seems to be doing a decent job. [Bonzi is another story all together]
We need Sura! Play V-span! Hey I am not jumping the wagon. I said and i will always keep saying that we need player like Sura! we need better outside definders. I don't know why JVG does not play V-span? Losing to spurs is not the end of the world. It is how we lose this game just makes me a little frustrated and disppointed. T-Mac needs to drive to the lane more, Yao needs to learn to adjust attacking strategy better. When Sura is back and V-span geeting more play time, then we are deep enough to be a true contender. otherwise we are simply not deep enough!
I need a BMW. Play PS3! Hey I am not jumping off a cliff. I said and i will always keep saying that I need a car like a BMW. I need better outside clothes. I don't know why my girlfriend does not give me a PS3? Losing my wallet is no the end of the world. It is how I lose my wallet just makes me a little frustrated and disppointed. Dad needs to go to the driving range more, Mom needs to learn to adjust sandwich packing strategy better. When BMW is back and PS3 getting more play time, then I am happy enough to be a true content-er. Otherwise I am simply not happy enough!
I absolutely agree with Flamescreen, not because I'm a Greek too, but because I believe in Spanouli's abilities. He need some minutes to the game. V-Span and Novak are so good choices for rookies, and I think they just need to take some minutes both.
