Yeah and listen to Barkley say how bad the Bulls are playing and how lucky the Rockets are. Then they will switch subjects and talk about other games then after the game how bad it was...

This is how I saw things as well.

If we employ perspective here, we will agree that Miami being the defending Champs playing home with one surefire HOF and another one in the making should get the benefit of doubts comments during a game like this.

I thought the whole gae experience on ESPN was fair enough (save for the silly boneheaded comment by Geg Anthony when he compared Dwaynes [sp?] offive rebound total to Yao) - I enjoyed myself.

That was Becky Hammon doing the interview. She's the point guard for the New York Liberty of the WNBA. She's a cutie.

I don't think this was a case of Yao being slighted so much as this was a HUGE sports day. Virtually every sport had some kind of story. It's a Sunday in the middle of football season. The NHL and NBA are both playing. It is the start of free agency in baseball. Even NASCAR and the PGA had events. Hell, the Dynamo was a bigger story on local news because of their championship than the Rockets.

If this had been on a weeknight, they'd have immediately tossed it back to Miami for the Yao interview.

I am a bit worried about Yao's chance in the MVP voting. The US media doesn't have a clue. It's the cruel truth. Last season, Yao was head and shoulder above any center in basketball and some how voted into the All NBA 3rd Team behind Shaq and Ben Wallace. This season, even if Kobe and Nash goes off and Wade gets worn out after a no-rest summer, it's still going to be difficult. If the Magic and Hornets make the playoffs, or Stoudmire keeps making uncontested dunks, he, Dwight Howard and Chris Paul will probably get the nod.

Obviously, Lebron is always going to be there. Unless Yao averages 50+30+15+10 blocks+5 steals, he just can't get the credit he deserve. They can always put him off with the excuse of "he plays alongside T-mac". There might even be a rule in the league when it comes voting like "those players whose first name if Yao is not eligible for voting" (even though it's his surname) or something like that. I would be ecstatic if Yao can just make the All NBA 1st team this year. That's 100 times more difficult than Joe Dumars' induction to HOF!!!

I pretty much had 2 problems with the ESPN commentators yesterday.

    1. They sounded like a broken record with their "analysis"...it was like the same old, same old...and they kept repeating it over and over again to the point that they weren't even commentating on the game anymore, rather the focus was on their "analytical" point. The games at the forefront (I mean it was a tight game almost throughout, and the commentators just mailed it in)...it's not meant to be a background to Anthony's or Legler's evaluation on basketball or what's right with the Heat and wrong with the Rockets.

    2. Where was the enthusiasm? It seemed obvious to me that neither Legler or Anthony cared about being at a Rockets v Heat game that night. If I were some head at ESPN, and I saw the way they mailed it in, there would be some explain'in to do...I don't care if you're not enthralled it's the Rockets v Heat or not...but what really matters is the appearance of being enthralled.

That is where I am on the topic. It was NFL Sunday and that is what the majority of the country was worried about. Also, it seems that ESPN and TNT are heading straight to the wrap-up show and playing a taped or an interview with a player in the tunnel instead of an interview right after the game anyway. That is how FSN does it as well and no one things FSN is not showing the Rox respect.
