Not really relevant to my post. I was referring to free agents and you brang up this trade. T-Mac is our lobbyist, he talked to Swift/Bonzi and convinced them Houston was there best option.

It wouldn't nullify our chances completely, but it certainly would hurt them. Players like Finley, Zo, and Payton wouldn't sign with us because we treat players that try to help us by signing less in order to contend like crap.

Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice shame on me. Well that doesn't necessarily fit this, but that was one time. If we do it to 2 players in 2 years, that will certainly hurt our chances for the next 2-3 years.

Dude, forget 2 players in 2 years, we already did it to two players in one year. Have you forgotten Derek Anderson?

And we did it to Jimmy Jackson the year before.

It's a business, and players who don't fit get traded.

It's like people on this forum never knew who Bonzi was before this year. This is the guy with run ins with pot or alcohol. This is the guy who laughed maniacly with Sheed when Sheed threw a basketball square at a teammate's head.

I think the Rockets staff knew what they were getting into, thus the lack of any real punishment. It's in everyone's interest for Bonzi to play well when it matters. 2.5 million for one year isn't a whole lotta money in the NBA.

Bonzo has 82 games to set his market value. So far, it looks likes he's shooting for a vet min or the Euro league.

And Shandon Anderson. And Mo Taylor.

indeed bonzi didn't play well so far but i never doubt he is a talent player, agressive, hustle, rebounding, height advantage, etc perfect person we need. how to use him well is the thing we should discuss but not how to trade him. btw, credit is a big thing, last year swift, anderson, now bonzi, if we trade players like them anymore, no more attractive we are.

    noone discounts his past

punishment for what? what did he do that any other player would have deserved punishment?

one assumes that he is going to be a cancer because he isn't in shape or playing, maybe there are other explanations besides "he's a thug" like "my groin is ripped."

thug players still play bball, and they can do it well. glad he's on the rockets

It's only 6 games into the season and guys are killing Bonzi. Anyone still remember how raved we were when we signed Bonzi? We all remember how great he was last season in the playoff run right?

Yes he's not in shape, but we're playing decent without him, and we'll need his conribution say 40 games into the season, when he's in playing shape.

I agree with JVG that he should play him when he's in playing shape, and I think bonzi should understand that he need to perform in order to get a decent deal next year.

Please, let talk about this issue in Feb, March, not right now. And I doubt anybody will bring this up when we have a healthy, in shape Bonzi back.

hmmm... doesn't sound like Van Gundy and Bonzi have "personal issues" with each other. either Gundy or Aldridge isn't being truthful.

anyway, it's starting to look like you get what you pay for. or put another way, for now, Snyder's a better bargain than Bonzi.

Maybe Wells needs a different approach from his coach:

    THE BLAIR WELLS PROJECT

In October of 2006, three professional basketball players disappeared in the woods near Huntsville, TX, while shooting a documentary..a year later their footage was found.

(The three players- Bonzi, Dikembe, and Shane, have been filming a documentary as part of a bonding project assigned by their coach Jeff Van Gundy. After several days, they are completely lost, their map isn’t helping them at all, and food supplies are running low, making Bonzi extremely agitated)

DIKEMBE: “Hey, who have my map? You take it, Shane? You have it, Bonzi?”
BONZI: “You know what, I kicked the f**kin’ map into the river…I mean, it wasn’t doing anything for us.”
DIKEMBE: “What?!? Maybe it didn’t mean anything to you, but it MEANT SOMETHING TO ME!!! I still don’t know this stupid country.”
SHANE: “Guys, it’s OK, it’s OK, it’s OK. I think this whole experience is just really keen.”

    (The next morning)

BONZI: “Guys, they’re some kind of slime on my pack…what is that stuff…”
    DIKEMBE: “Smells like doughnut glaze.”
SHANE: “Wow, whoever put that on did a superduper job.”
BONZI: “Yeah, but why is it only on my pack?”
DIKEMBE: “Because they are trying to tell you something. They eat you next.”
SHANE: “Now, guys, let’s not get antagonistic. Let’s keep a neat perspective on everything.”

(The next morning, still dark outside)

    DIKEMBE: “Hey, where’s Bonzi?”
SHANE: “Bonzi! Bonzi! Tell me where you are, Bonzi!”
DIKEMBE: “Hey, look there’s a house over there. Let’s go see if he’s there.”

    (In the house)

SHANE: “Hey, I hear him downstairs. Bonzi! Bonzi! OMG! WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!?”
DIKEMBE: “That’s Bonzi, you dummy. He’s peeing in the corner.”
SHANE: “Oh, for a minute I thought…I thought they were going to line us up and kill us while he was facing the wall.”
DIKEMBE: “You Americans watch too many independent movies. Hey, Bonzi, put the dingaling back in your pants and let’s get the hell out of here. We got to play the Spurs tonight.”
BONZI: “Aight, aight. Man, I swear I saw some evil looking MF that looked just like Coach Van Gundy. Scared the piss out of me- I’m definitely getting back into shape now!”
SHANE: “Aww, shucks, you’re just imagining things. Let’s get out of here- the Boy Scouts never prepared me for anything like this!”
    DIKEMBE: “Agreed.”
    BONZI: “F**in A right!”

(As they leave, a dark, mysterious, bald-headed creature emerges from the shadows)

JVG: “He, he, scared the crap out of all 3 of them. Maybe now that fat excuse for a player will be scared into getting in shape. Doughnut glaze- ha, a nice touch. Wait till next week when Vassilis, Steve, and John come out here. I hate rookies.”

That sucks because when Duckworth played for the Trailblazers and Oliver Miller was playing they were always fined by their team for being fat-overweight and out of shape. Miller ate himself out of the league....

Regardless of what we are paying him its still in the millions and he is a professional. Coming to camp a fat ass who spends his time at strip bars and doesn't even show up to the games really sucks...For now I could care less for Bonzis fat ass and I say we trade him while we can....

how do you know he doesn't show up to games?

have you played with a groin problem?

i highly doubt this is the first time he's been to a club, he has played pretty good in the past.

he's fat because he goes to clubs?

so because he makes millions he needs to live up to YOUR standards?

the rockets care about him, if you think that they didn't know his personality and are disappointed like you, they wouldn't have signed him.

What you say means nothing, the rockets did their homework as well as yours, they got this covered.

seperate the conjecture from what people do know.

Bonzi is like walking out of a store: You've got all your stuff and ready to check out, but you pass by some bargain bin, 20 batteries for $2. Did I plan on buying them? No. Do I really need them? It's critical, but I could use them in the future. It's a good deal, why not. Now I'm ready to check out and start the season.

My guess is Bonzi isn't acting like a professional. But we picked him out of the bargain bin and didn't count on getting him in the first place, so it's kind of a bonus right now that we have him.
