http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/gen/wire?messageId=5859443 Penny has declared that he is 100% and ready to go for Phoenix if the season started today. He said he feels like his old self. He's played games in 2 summer leagues, and on some days 2 games in a single day. He's continuing to work out with MJ in Chicago, he's helping Michael and Michael is helping him. If Marbury every passes him the ball, Penny could have a career year, or at least close. Marbury, Penny and Marion vs. Francis, Mobley and Rice should be an exciting 4 games this season. I haven't heard anything on Googs.
100% of his 1995 form or his 1999 form??? I would supsct Phoenix would be happy the latter, unfortunately by trading Kidd and Robinson they need him to be in 1995 form for them to make the playoffs.
Penny may have to be the X-factor for this team to go far into the Playoffs, because if he plays the 1 and Hogbury plays the 2 (like an AI in Philly) then they may be able to justify the trade of Kidd. Marbury is more of a natural scoring 2 guard like AI, Sam Cassell, Stevie Franchise, or Nick the Quick, but because of his size like the others on the court they play the point. If the Phoenix back court can play anything like Philly's, then i can see what they are trying to do.....
If it's 100% back to his 1995 form, the rest of the league is in trouble. He was that good. I REALLY doubt it though.
Being 100% healthy in no way means he can do what he did in 95. He will never be that quick again, he can still be an all-star but his NBA 1st team days are long gone.
Being 100% in the summer, and being 100% iduring the NBA season are two completely different things. And Penny won't ever be as good as '95, he's lost too much quickness.
