I think Yao has improved this year. Not saying he could get 27 / 12 night in and night out like the second half of last season, but he is definitely more consistent than before. At a very bad night, he could still give you something close to 20 / 8. I think it is an improvement.

Let's face it: he may not be an all-time greats, but he is good enough to be the No.1 center in the league now. I am satisfied.

He and T-Mac do need to win more playoff games to earn respect from national media. Dirk is a pure jumper shooter playing as a PF, but very few ppl label him soft because his stats are great and his team always keeps winning.

    These are my favoriites...

Typical qualifying remark so he can't be called on his BS later.

    Further backpeddling.

More backpeddling. Way to have a backbone.

Oh. So, adding quality players is what he needs? I thought it was his personality.

So, it's not his fault, but we're going to continue to call him soft until they win a playoff series.

There's a lot more that's wrong with this article, but I'm bored with it.

Just a quick stat comparison, per 40 minutes. It's natural that Yao's rebounding won't be as much ... he has better rebounders around him. He does need to work on the turnovers, though, but everything else looks good.

    Code:
    [B]season games mpg pts/40 reb/40 ast/40 blk/40 to/40 TS%[/B]
    06/07 5 33.0 29.6 9.5 2.2 1.7 4.1 64.1
    05/06 57 34.1 26.1 11.9 1.7 1.9 3.0 59.2%
    05/06* 24 36.5 29.1 13.2 2.0 2.1 3.1 61.9%

[SIZE=1][I]* - Post-allstar break, not including last game when he only played 5 minutes[/I][/SIZE]

What the heck??? Which Yao is this guy watching? Oh, I know - the one that the ESPN guys like to put out on the screen. Now it makes sense.

Yao changed the way NBA refs officiate a big man. Shaq was too lucky that he didn't go through this.

Til now the refs have no consistent way of officiating Yao.

One thing Venture is right about is Yao's rebounding. Apart from the first dozen or so games in his rookie season when he wasn't a starter, has Yao ever had a 5-game stretch where he didn't grab 10 or more boards in each of them? [for the sake of argument I do not count his last-second offensive board in the NOK game, it was freakishly lucky and useless IMO]

I tried to find game-by-game stats for Yao but it seems that all is available is this season's. Maybe Tango can help, or durvasa?

EDIT: Never mind. All stats are available here on CF.net. All I need to do is to click on each boxscore to find out, if the game high summary doesn't show what I want. Duh.

Man.....this guy needs to be shot !!

Just full of CRAP and hatred !! Totally rubbish !!!

How many players in this league is in the 20/10 Club that is still not considered dominant ?? Not change the game ?? How many players receive that kind of brutal double-teaming and triple-teaming like Yao Ming day-in and day-out ??

How was Yao Ming ready for NBA after competing for 5 years in CBA ??

Who is this guy anyway ?? So biased......

I hate these articles. They constantly bash Yao. I hope that yao reads one of these types of articles right before tip-off every game. Im sure that his stats will go from 25 a game to 30 a game but still no one will be happy. Even though he is averaging the same amount of points as lebron.

Here's a list of the largest gaps without at least 10 rebounds. It happened four times in Yao's third year (first under JVG).

Thanks! That's very impressive. (You, not Yao :) ) I am checking on the top 8 on this list. So far I've found no error. :p

Hope Yao bucks the trend tonight.

Note Well :Before Yoa Ming arrived I warned Rockets fans not to fall into the american trap of thinking that everyone should be like them.
This writer sounds to me to be one who has fallen into that trap and possibly might have an axe to grind! Yao MIng has his own personality that is quite different to the american personality and mindset. This personality should not effect his performance in becoming a great Basketball Player, quite the opposite is true! :p

Until Yao achieves something significant and has a consistent winning record, he will always be underrated.

Pure Trash reporting. Someone get a rope.

What's up with him bringing China's goverment into the article have to do with Yao. You got voted to all star because of a "Trillion" chinese ? What a douch, his facts are all screwy there billions chinese not trillion :D

"In China, authorities regularly crack down on Internet access for its citizens. But the NBA’s All-Star voting never seems to be affected. Yao gets about a trillion votes each year. And when you look around the league at the center position, it’s easy to understand why. He’s among the very best of a thin crop, especially in the Western Conference." WTF ? There are plenty of good big man in the west , isn't Dampier the 2nd best center, Duncan is chop liver ? Kaman and Brad Miller is an unskilled white dude ? Amare is a light weight?

    This guy is clueless.
