I heard the "big" announcement on Palilo's show this afternoon. Starting Monday they are replacing Dan Patrick with a local show host by Ted Deluca and....the Chronicle's John Lopez. Will it be another show that ignores the Rockets? Hopefully not. Lopez seems to know his Rockets stuff, but Deluca seems like an Astros homer the times I've heard him fill-in.

CRAP! I love Dan Patrick's show, I listen to it everyday at work :(

Any idea if his show will continue to be aired on one of the local stations, or if you can stream it online?

    Oh yeah, and Lopez sucks...

I'm not in Houston, but I do like the Dan Patrick show. It streams on ESPN online. You don't need to be an 'Insider' or any of that crap.

well, supposedly, we are getting a third sports station sooooo, maybe that will be an espn affiliate.

i saw 790's van at the dynamo rally. i guess they need to repaint because it still said ESPN 790 on it.

Yes. It's already been announced that ESPN will move the 97.5 fm.

Its funny that when 790 first started, people said it didn't have enough "local" programming.

Now that they're losing ESPN (mainly Mike and Mike, and Dan Patrick), in favor of local talent, people are getting upset again.

Frankly, I liked the national stuff... I like to hear the outsiders' perspective, especially when they discuss Houston sports. I never thought it was bad that people had options in the morning to listen to something other than Astros homerism, or complaining about the Texans.

Cool, love me some more ASTROS and Rockets chat. Although, I do like DP's show.

But from what I understand, it's not immediate; I read the move was going to be made in January.

And professorjay, could you please provide a link where I can stream his show live without having to do it through one of the local stations?

Thanks in advance, appreciate the info...

Okay I can post this here. Love Charlie Palilo but that dude can be an ass sometimes for no reason. after the texans game sunday, the first thing he says on monday is the giants held out a bunch of players because they were playing the texans, but it turns out the giants really have a bunch of hurt players. just had to get that off my chest.

The Big Show with Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann is the best single hour in sports radio. I like when they joke about the old days at ESPN. I get a kick out of Michael Irvin spinning like a top to defend TO.

'TD and J-Lo' to replace Patrick show Monday on KBME

Chronicle columnist John P. Lopez and Ted DeLuca will host a midday sports talk show on KBME (790 AM), beginning Monday.

The "TD and J-Lo Show" with Lopez, a Chronicle writer for 17 years, and DeLuca, who has worked for Clear Channel's Houston stations since 2002, will air from noon to 3 p.m. weekdays, replacing the Dan Patrick Show from ESPN Radio. It will air in the same time slot as the Jim Rome Show on KILT (610 AM) and Patrick's show, which moves with the rest of the ESPN Radio lineup in January to KFNC (97.5 FM).

"John is well-known from the newspaper, and Teddy has done a great job for us," said Ken Charles, regional vice president for Clear Channel Communications, which owns KBME. "We've been looking for a midday show, and when we heard them together, we decided that we have to do this. We can talk about things that people in Houston care about, for a change."

I actually like that move. I think Lopez is good on the radio and he knows the Rockets. I don't know enough about Deluca to form an opinion.

I like Palilo, but this is the same guy that said the Rockets would NEVER win a championship with Kenny Smith and Vernon Maxwell as their starting backcourt.

    WHOOPS!

Any show featuring any of the Chronicle columnists is one I would avoid.

I loved the whole espn lineup. Better than Gimp in the box and rich lord and vanderpuke.

    Ditto.

I guess I will just have to suffer through Jim Rome until DP makes the switch to 97.5 :(
