No, I don’t think being gay has anything to do with it. He just had his ass handed to him by the American electorate.

Wouldn't those two assertions you made be complimentary of one another? :D

I think being gay has a lot to do with it, especially after Foley. This is a bone thrown to the Dobson wing.

Of course, he absolutely sucks at his job, but we know that's not a reason Bush would fire you... it has to be a political reason.

    Mehlman likely to leave RNC

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Several Republican sources tell CNN that Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman is all but certain to step down at the end of the year, and the White House already is searching for a replacement or replacements to lead the party into the 2008 presidential campaign cycle.

Two sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mehlman has made clear to close associates for some time he was likely to leave after the 2006 elections -- and that there is no dissatisfaction with his performance in the midterm cycle. A third source confirmed Mehlman's leaving is a good possibility but said a final decision has not been made. "It would be wrong to call it a done deal," this source said.

One name that has come up as a possible replacement is outgoing Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who just lost a US Senate race. One of the sources, though, said a more likely scenario is for Steele to join the Bush administration in another capacity after the first of the year when a few members of the Bush Cabinet and other senior officials are expected to leave.

One scenario under discussion, should Mehlman leave, according to two of the sources, is to split the RNC leadership duties, a model both parties have used at times in the past.

Under this approach, a party operative would be brought in to run day-to-day affairs, and a prominent Republican, most likely a former office holder, would be named general chairman. The name most talked about to run the day-to-day operation in such an approach is Maria Cino, a veteran Republican strategist who currently serves as deputy transportation secretary.

You made a thread about it, and reported it with an explanation point. Your tone seems to be one of jubilation.

    Disgusting.

And speaking of shtick, you have the holier than thou liberal tree hugger routine down pat. Look forward to tasting your tears of anguish in '08 as McCain takes the presidency.

Mehlman has been asked by the press what his sexual orientation is and has refused to answer (i.e. refused to be outed as a straight man, if that were the case). The press asked the question obviously due to the ongoing rumors.

Digging into anyone's personal life is disgusting. Yes, Ken Mehlman is scum for defending that Harold Ford ad, among other things, but you don't "out" people...you are affecting other lives besides theres when you do.

    It's sad, either way...

i think the average liberal would be more ok with mccain winning than the average neocon that you seem to be.

though i think mccain is a douchebag at the end especially his nonsense this year with anti-gay marriage campaigning.

Please. It's been known for a long time. If you "google" Mehlman+gay, you get 658,000 hits. Now, a lot of those are about him supporting anti-gay policies and running gay bashing ads, but you get the idea. Besides, if I was on TV a lot and have influence on national policy and I tried to outlaw Doritos and urged people to hate Doritos and supported those who thought that eating Doritos was a one-way ticket to hell while I was constantly eating Doritos on my Barcalounger, wouldn't that be a bit hypocritical and wouldn't people be entitled to the knowledge?

And of course, the Dobsonites have known but bit their tongue as long as the Repubs were winning.
