Hayes is progressing as a Rodman/Oakley type player, certainly not at their caliber yet, but he's currently fitting in well and playing his role for the team.

I wonder who would win in a layup contest ..Rafer or Chucky Hayes....Ive nver seen 2 guys miss more layups then these guys....

You know when you go to the Rockets game and they have the contest at Halftime with kids racing eatch other to make layups..it wold be much more entertaining to see Chuck against Rafer...plus it would be extra practice :p

Hmm, I thought scoring layups is one thing he couldn't do very well. Anyway, I think starting Hayes instead of Snyder is the right thing to do, at least for now.

With his smaller size, he can't make it all the time but last game he tipped the ones he missed back in and all of his baskets are 95% tip-ins or layups

You can't have it all at every position! Mind you that we have above average rebounding in our backcourt.

Starting Hayes is just a vindication of what true crap we have on this team after Yao and Tmac. Is this really the best we have? If the Rockets let him go tomorrow it is worth a debate if any other team would pick him up, much less give him a starting role.

I second that statement. durvasa has been nothing but civil in his replies. Disagree if you want but the only person slinging **** in here has been you Rockets Dynasty.

Hayes is our Kurt Rambis/Dennis Rodman. If he keeps up the pace, he is going to become a force all his own. Once he starts getting a little more respect from the officials, we are staring at a 12/12 guy who plays great post defense. And we are getting that for basically nuthin. Don't tell me you'd rather have KMartin, or Troy Murphy, or....who else is available???

chuck hayes deserves his start.... he has shown good defense and hustle. the rockets play with more energy when he is on the floor... he may not be great on offense, but he makes good plays that get him some easy layups. As far as im concerned, its better than seeing juwan howard on the court for a long period of time

If we don't give out our best, then who do we put on the floor? Rafer Alston as PF? Bonzi Wells as PF? Battier as PF? it's not a vindication of what true crap we have, it's a vindication of what we have and how we use it.

There's only a handful of true stars in this league (LeBron, Mac, DWade, Yao, Arenas, Kobe, Carter, etc...) and the rest of the league is made up of guys that hustle to make in the league. Chuck is a hustle guy and as long as he gives 150% each night, he's got my vote to continue to start...I would take his 8-10 boards per game and 6 hustle fouls with whatever you get in layups, put backs, etc each night over anything else we have at the 4 spot.

Some people actually think that we should have three or four allstars at each position...maybe the Nets will give us Carter and Kidd by Allstar break...what a freakish lineup will have then. ;)

That's a debate I'd be willing to argue.. and not because I am probably the kid's biggest fan. Chuck is a coach's dream and now that he's proven that he can hold his own in the NBA, and sometimes exceed expectations.. there are teams around the league that would take him no doubt.

You are exactly right. I cannot figure out for the life of me what some of these guys want from our PF spot. I think if he were 4 inches taller a whole lot more people would like him. Sure looks like so far he is the chemistry guy that we need at that spot. And for all those guys wanting a "real" power forward, name your man and tell us how to acquire him.

p.s. I really can't understand the continued posts about how we need some star at every position. That never works out. Besides, with Tmac back and Yao, plus freakin bonzi when he gets it together, brother, that's a lot of star power. Solid long term teams need solid long term role players, exactly the approach grumpy and CD are using. Boy, sure glad those fire CD threads have evaporated. What a waste of typing. He'll be put in the bb hall of fame aasap.

the west seems even more level and tougher this year. what a season we have ahead of us.

That's exactly what I wonder sometimes. How can people expect a star player at every position as the only way a team can win a championship.

Chucky Brown without the jump shot. Every team needs its own Chucky Brown to get the dirty work done.
