I agree and would like to add that most high rate of crime to high gun ownership countries are crap holes like Somalia.

I can sympathize with the argument that you need a gun for self-defense but at the same time I can see reasonable limits regarding what you can use.

Could I come up with a scenario where I might need to use an RPG, a stinger missile or a .50 cal machine gun with armor piercing rounds? Certainly. How likely are situation like that going to come up? Not very likely. As Katrina and the Rodney King Riots showed yes civil society can break down and the police can't always be there but even in that case we're not going to be fighting a civil war in the streets where military type weapons will be needed.

Also let me add one more note in regard to self-defense and guns. If you think guns are an end all to self-defense think again. I teach self-defense with someone else who is an ex-cop and one of the exercises that the police do is to have someone rush at them and they try to draw their weapon. In almost all cases someone can rush from 20 feet away and even the cop will not have time to draw their weapon from their holster. If a cop cannot draw his gun in time to stop an attacker how is someone with minimal training going to be able to draw a weapon from a purse or some other concealed holster, release the safety, aim and fire in time to stop someone? Same thing with if you keep a gun in your home. If someone breaks in unless you sleep with a loaded gun under your pillow you still have to unlock the gun, load it and still hope that you can release the safety aim and shoot. IMO you're far better off learning to recognize threats and how to avoid them along with basic hand to hand self-defense techniques than getting a gun for personal protection.

Perfect example to have your guns unlocked and fully loaded, and to get proper training.

Nope that's me. I must confess though that's a very realistic looking pellet gun. Other than that the only guns I own fire staples and hot glue.

What are you so scared of? Seriously - I'm not trying to be an ass, but your zeal is disconcerting, to say the least.

To be fair to him, he's not as zealous as some others I know, believe it, or not.

Handgun owners as a group have proved this, just like drivers as a group have proved that speed limits shouldn’t be eliminated. Look at the gun crime stats between the US and Canada, for example. The difference is huge, but I suspect you know that very well. They way you try to dodge the issues suggests to me that you know very well that your position is wrong.

Same here - I know a guy with a grenade launcher in his apartment. He owns not a single hunting implement - they are all designed to kill people.

But keeping a gun loaded and unlocked? Where does Casey live to necessitate that kind of vigilance?

I don't really care that people own, love, or feel they need guns. But that does not mean it should be one's first reaction to any given scenario.

I don’t know any responsible gun owner who would say such a thing. I think we have a guy who’s just playing games here.

What issues am I trying to dodge? I have been responding to a dog pile and answering all questions and challenges. You offered nothing.

Speed limits are imposed on you IF you want to drive on a public road. I made my argument on that a few pages ago.

If you had had proper training you would know they would have told to never leave your guns unlocked and fully loaded.

And strong gun controls should be imposed on you wherever your gun may be a threat to others. I suggest everywhere outside of a gun club, and even in a gun club there are very strict rules to follow. They know how dangerous guns can be and the kind of care they need to be handled with. If you can't leave a loaded and unlocked gun lying around at a gun club why on earth would you think that would be ok in your home??

My home is a controled environment. When I am in public places no one sees much less touches my handgun.

I don;t support any restrictions on law abiding people whatsoever.

I guess you can call me a zealot now. I tried to leave personal opinions out of this because its impossible to attack logic, Its simple to start personal attacks and calling me crazy.
