Last evening my mom suffered a heart attack. We think it is her first but she was anemic and somewhat frail to begin with. She nearly didn't survive the night. It was just dumb luck (I guess) that I called her right when it was happening and we were able to get help to her. She even joked with me, "I don't think I'm having a heart attack, but I feel this tightness in my chest..." Normally I don't call her until later in the evening, but not this time... They have her ventilated and sedated. She was judged too anemic to consider surgical intervention. We'll just have to see what happens. She turned 82 last August 17. This past year has been very hard for her both emotionally and physically. It's been five years since we lost my dad. Back in September she fell and suffered a compression fracture of her fifth vertebrae which well could have paralyzed her. She's been in an ALF off Loop 610 since then. I'm in NC. Pray for her peace and comfort regardless of the outcome. Also pray for my brother and my sister-in-law who are having to deal with all the stress, strain and caretaking. Thanks so much.
My thoughts are with you, giddy, and I hope for the best possible results for your Mom. My step-grandmother had bypass surgery when she was 80, and came through with flying colors. I remember sitting in the hospital waiting room up in East Texas, and we were in dispair. The possibility that someone of that age could have that kind of surgery, and survive, seemed remote to us, yet she did extremely well. It's amazing what they can do today. I hope they are able to help your mother, and good luck.
Don't get discouraged. There are some great doctors and facilities in Houston. My thoughts and wishes are with you and your family, and I hope that you are able to make it to Houston to see her.
This is true. Don't get discouraged.. your mother should be in good hands. I pray she'll have a smooth and quick recovery. Keep us updated.
