Unfortunately I'll be hesitant to ever go there again. Earlier today I went there to check on Jahidi White's byc status and just doing that popped up ads in 11 windows. Many of the ads were redundant, some of the ads had javascript errors (which further req. me to click "no, don't debug") even further wasting my time. Congratulations though on the money that you guys are getting! I understand there are financial pressures to keeping a site up... but I'm just not sure as a user that the ad model is the way to resolve those problems. Just some input... from a former visitor.
I love the site also, but I was having 2 ads pop up on the same page several times & one time, I had 3 pop up on the same page. That's a bit too much.
From RealGM main page: "Important Message from RealGM.com An error with one of our advertising partners resulted in our valued visitors being bombarded with excessive pop-up advertisements for most of the day. We have solved the problem and want to take this opportunity to express our regret for any and all inconvenience this episode may have caused." Looks like they took care of it. I didn't have any problems while I was there.
Time for Some Harsh Criticism I have so much respect for these guys that I sometimes feel a sense of hurt or even anger when someone, especially another friend and acquaintance, critizes the unforseeable end result of an isolated and infrequent website foible. The internet has grown so rapidly that even to mention this is ... well it's ubiquitous .... It still has glitches and glombs, especially on well-used sites or "semi-amateur" maintained sites, that sometimes makes surfing them either mildly confusing to downright irritating. But value for value, if we were given a free pulp magazine that was not only generally informative, but also entertaining and current to our needs - we would allow that same magazine or paper the luxury of forgiveness if a page of advertising fell on our kitchen floor or there was a blotch of pale ink on one corner. To be sure ... spamming and the overlapped of unsolicited electronic advertisements is annoying. The fact is - that we take for granted the time and effort to produce such a product. Because it is relatively easy to access we sometimes forget that the investment in time and money ..... to continue to be informative, current and entertaining ...... is borne by the same guys (and girls) who share your opinion. Care about the same things you care about. And, truly are attempting to put their collective best product out there for your approval. Sometimes this Herculean effort takes it's occasional and obvious toll. So be it. Sometimes we as users drop the ball ourselves when we miss the opportunity to perform a human task beyond most people's abilities. That is .... to say nothing. Especially when a friend has a problem and is working to correct it. By being less critical we show support. Make no mistake all your friends here appreciate your efforts.
Yep. Free sites get major props and deserve massive slack, even with ads. I dont know how many people here run a website, but its a b****. Clutchcity spoils all of us probably. You can not even buy the services real gam offers for free.
I'm sorry if this came across as griping. I very much enjoy the site & use it a lot. I was just reinforcing Achebe's concern about the number of pop-up ads. I guess in hindsight, I should've just emailed them about my concerns. Once again, I apologize for my post, if it offended anyone.
I am sure many of you already know this, but i'll say it anyway. To aviod popup ads, you can disable java permissions in the security window of your "internet options" dialogue box. Click on custom level, then scroll until you find the proper option and disable it. You won't be able to do every single thing on the net, but if you really want to avoid those ads, it does the trick well enough. KBM
Yeah, but what if some of us want to run java applets which are everywhere on the 'Net? Makes it a pain... Stupid commerce screwed the Internet...
It's fixed now. Here is the explanation and an apology (the owners and operators are Bulls fans): http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?topic=13444&forum=10&1
JValdez thank man it a very cool site. Do what you have to Some of us are very very happy to have access to the site thank again
Sorry for taking so long to respond to this -- my own internet has been down for most of the last week. We were none too happy about discovering all those pop-ups either. We certainly didn't authorize it. And, you'll be happy to know, we didn't profit from it either. Achebe and others: I hope ya'll understand that that's done now and will come on back to the site. Hottodie, I'm not offended and I don't think anyone else is. I know finding that would have alienated me from a website too, if I wasn't so closely associated. Branded: Not all the owners and operators are Bulls fans! We've got fans of Chicago, Houston, Orlando, New York, Philadelphia, and a few others represented (I never noticed we were such an EC group!). And, thanks for all the props from those who gave them.
