Well after a few shows that were just ok, Studio 60 picked up some major steam last night with John Goodman as a small town judge in Purumph Nevada....

    Great fun, anyone else watching?

Not being cancelled, despite all the thoughts that it might, it is the 2nd highest rated new show on NBC.......

They will give it some time to find it's audience.

As an aside, exactly what do you find about the show that you don't like? I find it well written and the characters interesting, and I am really liking the direction it is taking now.

That may be true, but I believe it's also the most expensive show that they have on the network at $3 million an ep. That cancellation report was a bit premature, since I've heard that they ordered new scripts since then. But considering the ratings, and the cost of the show, I don't see how it can survive past this year unless they cut costs. Bring it down to the production level/cost of "Sports Night" and maybe it can be renewed. Or just send it to HBO where it can handle smaller viewership and a lower amount of episodes.

I have really enjoyed the show. Mathew Perry, the "Danny " character from "West Wing"-the chemistry is good. The "Wings " guy is very good at the corporate part. I have been a long time fan of Amanda Peet, DL Hugley, and Timothy Busfield.

The show is excellent. There is so much bad TV on that this is something I really look forward to on Mondays.

I also liked "Kidnapped" and "Smith " with Ray Liotta-both history now.

The creative force behind Studio 60 also did "Sports nite"- also very good, but never found it's audience. I never watched "West Wing" , but it looked good.

I hope "Studio 60" makes it. It is very good.

That's the problem with Studio 60. NBC can't afford to give it time to find it's audience. This isn't a 30 minute sitcom with no name actors. Hour long dramas with ensemble casts cost a LOT to produce, so they generally get the axe more quickly than shows with lower production costs.

The good news is that Studio 60 really can't do any worse in the ratings, so any improvement is good news, for now. I think there will be a small ratings spike because of all the attention the show has gotten the past week due to the reported cancellation, but if it stagnates, I think it's gone before the new year...

I don't want this thread going to the D&D, but I don't like the way they talk about Christianity and how they use it in their so-called skits.

Most of the humor that they have is so dry, I can't even force a laugh. I was watching the last episode and it just turned me off.

    I also checked here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_60_on_the_Sunset_Strip

....and the ratings for each episode has considerably dropped. Their Nielsen ranking has dropped from #22 on 9/18/06 to #60 on 10/23/06. The site says they got 3 extra episodes, but they're most likely going to get a time change.

    Fair enough.

I actually enjoy them making fun of the religious right, and exposing the power they have in attacking the networks and advertisers en masse.

But, I can certainly see where someone that is part of that culture would not like the show.

Studio 60 is in a very tough time slot against "CSI Miami". The cost of the cast will probably kill it. It is a good product I wish could be successfully marketed.

There is just so much garbage on Television.

That report was written by Roger Friedman from Fox news. I can see where he was coming from, trying to put a rival network's show "out of it's misery", so to speak, but all he really did was draw more attention and possibly get the show new viewership. If Studio 60 rebounds and makes it to next season, we might not see any more articles from Friedman for a while...

They will find a new timeslot for it, apparently it was going to run on Thursday's originally.

Heroes is a great show but the audience is different than Studio 60s, for the most part, at least not a great match, IMHO.

Good news- a new time slot would give it a better shot at an audience. This is the best work Matthew Perry had done. Amanda Peet is an under rated actress. D.L Hughely should get more mainstream exposure as his talent is under appreciated.

This show has the potential to be so much more than a "Saturday Nite Live documentary" drama. It could be a forum for imprtnat dramatic issues.

I am a Christian-the show does not offend me. I like being challenged - to think and reflect on my position on issues.

Nothing I have seen on the show is distateful or offensive to me. It is thought provoking.

i saw a report that said all the shows with numbers in them appear to be doomed-

The Nine, Six Degrees, 30 Rock, and Studio 60 were all mentioned...

30 Rock is getting a new time slot as well... I have enjoyed what I have seen, but Tina Fey cant carry the show with her acting... Alec Baldwin saves that show...

Studio 60, I havent seen yet, but almost all the reports say a cancellation is imment...

how much longer can they hold on?

remember, Seinfeld didnt gain momentum until its third season..

I agree, it takes time to gain your audience...

Studio 60 is too intelligently written for commercial TV. Really, you have to dumb entertainment down to the lowest denominator to get large audiences.

Why Sorkin doesn't sign on with HBO, I don't know.

Goodman is killing in the role of the judge.

Nate Courddry is a huge surprise. He was just Rob's little brother playing a minor role on the The Daily Show but he really has some TV acting chops.

I have watched every show and it is getting better IMO. Last nite was excellent set up. It is good on it's own merits. For the money saved on cheap productions like "Deal or No deal" this show shuld be subsidised.

Christine Lahti playing the Vanity Fair type magazine reporter was really good with amanda Peet and Matt Perry. She is still sexy at 50+ years. I like the way the director set this up. She could be an allie to Perry's or Peet's character or write something embarrrassing. Well done!
