Given the last 3 games the biggest problem rightnow with this rox team is not lack of talents but leader! Who do you think should take the leadership role. Like John barry said T-mac and Yao aren't exactly the sure answer. I know los of you guys will argue with me that whether or not Sura took the leadership role 2 years ago. I think he did especially when we started season with a record 6-11. His toughness and heart is something i missed so badly rightnow. Here are the candidates 1 Tmac good: Great shooter, 2 times score champion, High basketball IQ. clutch shot maker. Bad: injury, losing his aim rightnow, not a very vocal person. 2 Yao good: dominance in the paint, scoring machine, offense center in most of the games. Bad: fatigue, normal in defence, foul trouble, too quiet to be a leader, culture difference. 3 Battier good: great defender, good shooting percentage, Smart player, good reputation among refs, role model. Bad: Unconfident sometimes, without superstar quality numbers. 4 Alston good: improved 3 points shooting, good dribbling, a fighter. bad:bad decision making sometimes, insonsistency of shooting, bad reputation among refs, bad defence. 5 others: possible candidates snyder, Mutombo,JHoward,V-span,Sura?
I really think that it should be a Mutiple selection poll I'd say Yao has the edge over everybody now, but when time passes by Battier would take over/ joint caps with Yao
JVG!! JVG's Word is Law.. pretty much you could have excluded Snyder, VSpan, Head (as they only take up space )
after Dallas game my opinion Rafer Alston is our leader Tracy isn't in rhytm now Shane is solid Snyder is very good,Luther too But our leader w a doubt is Ming Yao in this season, not T-mac anymore
I know a lot of you guys are going to call me a fool..... but anyway.... I think that J Howard might be a better leader for this team. I know he isn't the player he used to be (matter of fact; not even close), but I think that he is among the more experienced, consistant (although consistantly below average stats) and calm players on the team. The leader of this rockets team may not have to be the best player, but a player who can unite his team members. When I read this thread, the first thing I thought of was how Howard defended Yao during the Mason incident. A leader needs to be someone who will speak for the team, Yao and Tmac are too quite to be that kind of person.
You're right... you a fool! You a rookie fool! Maybe JHO could lead them in a shoplifting spree but on the court he is slim shady.
I voted for Rafer, simply because he's the one I see trying to communicate with other players the most. I don't normally see Yao, Tracy, or Shane approaching another player to discuss strategy like Rafer does. I'm sure others have noticed this. Whether he's the leader in the locker room I don't know, but he seems to at least try to be the leader on the court.
Rafer has the qualities of a leader as well as Sura. Don't count on Yao. Tmac's mouth is not as good as his game now.
I vote for Rafer too. A lot of you have issues with him, but IMO, he's the closest thing we have to a leader on the court now, because he communicates well with his teammates. You always see him talking, talking, telling the d how to adjust to counter opponents' plays, telling guys where to go on offense. Tmac might be the most multi-talented player, but he's too much of a "I'll let my play do the talking" kind of player. Yao might be the most dominant offensively but we all know he's not mean enough to shout at his teammates. So it's definitely on Rafer now.
You left off: None of the above. That is best answer available in my opinion. It is also one the rockets biggest problems.
I have to disagree on this one sure he dont start off well but Snyder is valuable to this team at the moment the only player on the team driving in and getting the foul called
I chose T-mac for the simple fact that he get more shots ... I'll say Yao is the leader when he take more shots than anybody else on the team consistantly...
Definite Yao Ming. He is a great "quiet" leader that leads by example and by getting the job done. Plus, he is coming into his own now.
Hard to answer, Yao is the same mode as Hakeem, quite, lead by example. It's harder for those players to be the true leaders unless they are just putting on dominating performance night in and night out (Dream in 2 championship run). Honestly, Sura would've been a great leader for us, but he just can't play any more.
