For those of you who have been down on the DIT offense, did you hear Hubie Brown tonight say that you can not win in this league without a post game? Yep, that is right...NO POST = NO WINS. I do want to have movement, but the Rockets need a Post up player to change it up occasionally. I actually wish they would start Kenny Thomas, as he seems to be the best at the post up game. T. Hamilton is just too slow, and is easily picked when he tries to dribble. (Though I did like that spin move he made tonight ) Carlos Rogers is not a post player, and Cato needs TONS of work before he is a post up threat. The Rocks are making progress, but I can't wait to see what Dream adds to this team. Charles and Dream were getting in each others way, but with one of them out, I think the other can still shine as the focal point of the Post up offense. DaDakota PS. I am not saying DIT all the time, but it is nice to do occasionally to keep the other team honest.
I can't remember a single person on this BBS saying, "we shouldnt postup AT ALL", or anything of that matter. Every team has to post up to be successful, but what would kill the Rockets was posting up 95% of the game.
Cabbage, I actually liked the blend of post up and movement that we had developed with Barkley as the lone post up threat. I am hoping Hakeem can come in and do the same. DaDakota
DaDakota Did you say Hubie Brown???? How long has he been on the Side Lines. While i may agree somewhat, I don't care much for Hubie's Advice. Rocket River
River, While I tend to agree with you about Hubie, I still want a person who can score on the low block. What is the deal with Massenberg? 3 more weeks for the dream to return. DaDakota
I think Hubie knows what he is talking about and like listening to him. LOL, everyone will never be happy. When we have the post, we don't want it. When we don't have it, we want it. LOL. Don't flame me. I know yall mean some of the time but less of the time posting up.
I agree about starting Thomas. He's shown a lot of potential, has some fundamental post-up abilities, and lots of energy. Much as I like Carlos Rogers, starting him at the 4 isn't the best utilization of his abilities.
hubie is the god of bball... that being said, we suck. as a barkley fan, i have to say two things on the post up offense: a) given dream and chuck, chuck would be much more helpful w/ this team than dream could ever be. b) and dream will be much better than he ever was w/ chuck on the team. i think that the former barkley detractors will have some ammo on their side when dream comes back. barkley's personality, i think, overwhelmed this team (which wasn't a bad thing; i'd die for any dominating personality to this team right now) and one of the detractors mentioned this... that dream acquiesced in his leadership role b/c chuck was always talking. when he comes back, this team will flourish... of course playoffs are out of the question, but the b.d.s will be patting themselves on the back nonetheless... p.s. the problem was just both of them together, not one or the other.
I hate to tell you guys this, but we kinda lost a few games with Hakeem and Barkley in there, too... remember? ------------------ Rocket fuel pumps through these veins...
I hate the idea of Cato becoming a post player. We should just have him concentrate on playing defense and rebounding. Lets draft a scoring Small or Power forward. Like Anderson, Cato will be a terrific consistent defensive player and its exactly those types of players that we need to win a championship. People who have designated roles and accept them are crucial. When Hakeem does come back, the Rockets will have someone who can score in the post and play defense not to mention a shot blocking tandem along with Cato at the powerforward position that will kick some nba butt. Though I do have one question for everybody: When Hakeem comes back will he affect our draft position in anyway? ------------------ GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!! Rocket101, Of course he will EFFECT (hehe) our draft position, by contributing to more wins. DaDakota
DaDaKoTa: I have to disagree. The problem with Rockets is not the lack of Post-Up offense. It is the lack interior defense against other team's post-ups and a cohesive offense(rduy's job). I was just struck tonight that how small Cato looked against Ewin in size. We need to get him to shoot better jumper and play 4 instead 5 when Hakeem returns. You can't simply say that the lack of post-up means no wins. Many teams were succesful without using 85% offense with post-ups. Such teams were, MJ's Bulls, Malone's Jazz, Payton & Kemp's Sonics, and Bad Boys' Pistons, etc. I can argue Bird's Celtics was not a post-up team, and they beat twin towers of Hakeem + Sampson. I am TOTOALLY against D-I-T Hakeem play at his age. But it does not mean Rockets should not play post-up, it just has to be in the flow of the rythem. I would argue, against my early prediction, the 5 second rule actually made Charles's post-up game better this season, because the timing had more flow and energy to it and thus made the team better. The only thing I am against is that Rudy's D-I-T to Hakeem. He catches the ball and wait and wait, the whole play's rythem, flow and teammates movement come to a dead stop.
We have a post up a player. Francis. The thing is he is rookie and doesn't quite know how to post up yet. Give him some time. What I do like knowing is that Jordan didn't really post up when he was a rookie. Francis is already showing signs. Now, if he just had that fall away jumper that Jordan has. Hakeem. Where are you? Teach the man how to make that shot.
We may not win a game until Dream comes back and, even then, there are no guarantees. It just goes to show how hard it is without a leader like CB around. I was optimistic about this season until the injury bugs hit us. Now, I don't think we have a snowball chance in hell of doing anything at all this season. We may not win 20 games. Don't get me wrong...I will still watch and support...but I can't say I'm not frustrated. I'm frustrated as hell. Oh well...guess we still have baseball(yuck) coming up. Who are the Rockets supposed to beat now? I can't think of a single team at the moment. Surfguy
