The local portion of the NPR news segment just said,

"If you've know about the meaning of Clutch City, then you know it's about the success of the Rockets, Astros, Aeros, and now ... the Dynamos."

The news segment was about the Dynamos. Not that there isn't anything wrong about that, but that's not the point ...

what do yall think? Is this a dilution of the meaning bordering on being sacrilegious, or is this actually the rallying cry of the city of Houston teams?

it will always be a rockets thing but that goal by the dynamo against Chivas was pretty damn clutch.

I think it would be cool if all Houston teams could help contribute to "Clutch City." The Astro's did pretty good but fell short. The Oilers CONTRIBUTED to the moniker Choke City (I'm still pissed about that Buffalo game) ...and the Texans aren't even worth mentioning.

So as far as I'm concerned, it's wishful thinking to apply the name Clutch City to our other sports.

Considering the prominence of the phrase "Clutch City" in regards to Houston sports, it doesn't seem unreasonable that it gets used whenever any team from Houston does something clutch.

Since it's two blocks from the Summit, it probably has something to do with the Rockets.

My boss at work was at the game, and has vividly described it to me twice now. He's a Bills fan.

I guess I was so young, and it's been so long, and we have a new team now, so I am not that enthralled by it.

It's the address for the Summitt. Believe it or not, you could mail something to "Clutch City, Texas" and it would go there. Pretty cool.

I thought it was the coolest thing the first time I heard about that (through this board).

Exactly. Dynamo, Astros, Rockets, and maybe even one day the Texans. They are all HOUSTON. So they all abide to the phrase IMO.

    What is NPT?

    ;)
Yeah, I remember that in every mailer that came from the Rox organization after 1996 or 1997, the address was Clutch City, Texas. Also, in the Yellow pages, the seating chart had a location for "Clutch City" as the address.

No, I am sorry, it will NOT BE for the DYNAMO... it will always be for the ROCKETS.

The aftermatch was horrendous. I was made fun of for years being an Oilers fan...and it was all over the national media. People made comics about it. God was that depressing. I'm so thankful that the Oilers cease to exist. That team needed to move and have a new start. Better to let Tennessee have the curse then for us to live with it.

But I am not a Texans fans and never will be.

But we should also be thankful to the oilers...because without that happening....there would never be "clutch city".

Clutch City is strictly a Rockets thing. It's absurd to tie it to any other team in Houston when none of them have proven to be clutch. But more importantly, did any of the other Houston teams rally from choke city? No. So the Olajuwon lead Rockets do the work and every team that happens to be in the city get to reap the benifit? That seems silly to me.

p.s. What the hell is NPR and who the hell are the dynamos?

Somebody better inform the mayor that the NBA is getting an injunction to stop the city from using the phrase "Clutch City".

Talking about pissed about that Buffalo game...We were up God knows how many touchdowns at halftime and I was like "Man, this is a joke", laughing obviously :D, and went on to finish my meal or something. And the next thing I remember when turning the game back on - "Man, is this some kind of a joke?! --> -->  -->   ...

Well the Astros have had their best years in club history (as far as postseason success) the last few years but I still think their record in games when trailing going into the ninth inning is the worst in baseball.

I sure as hell hope they can win a title soon so we can have something else to go along with the Rockets titles and if the Texans can win we can start getting away from all the Oiler choke jobs.

Can't say the Astros are clutch like the Rockets were. Imagine we came back to beat Phoenix, made it to the Finals but got SWEPT by the Knicks--0-4. Had that happened, Clutch City would not have been coined.
