    you're an idiot.

You might as well get used to these kinds of threads as long as JVG is around. He is overrated and is losing whatever he was good for.

Now, somoene else call me an idiot....

Tmac should forget about his back and ATTACK THE BASKET!!!!!

Dude this is ONE TIME opportunity - we've got tmac/yao/bonzi/battier! If u don't give out everything now then when!??

But be honest, blame everything tonight on JVG!!! I still don't believe why he sat out Howard+Bonzi+Vspan? I think he thought we're still in preseason.... Wake up Jefff!!!! Maybe Rowdies would wake you up!!!

If anyone should sit out for the 1st 10games, it must be JLIII, Sura and Padgett. We need Vspan's GLUE-denfence!

    Upcoming 2nd roaster:
Vspan/Synder/Tmac/Bonzi/Yao : I call it the Bad boys!!

Well, now that I have calmed down a bit, I must say that we were beaten by the early foul trouble on key players. I think it shook our team more than we thought it would, mostly because our teammates are fairly new to each other.

I know many of you guys think JVG is unable to adjust, but he is nothing if not an excellent defensive coach. I think he did what he could, given limited resources. Some of you guys were even desperate enough to call for JHo to guard Boozer, but let's get serious here: Do you actually think JHo could do a better job than Battier? I seriously doubt that. Most of us were begging management to trade him away, and now that he isn't getting any love from JVG, we start complaining?

HOWEVER, we still should have adjusted better than that. I don't understand why he didn't play Head enough when Alston was bricking early on. I also don't understand why he pulled Novak in and out of the lineup so much that Novak couldn't get any rhythm going. And I REALLY don't understand why he didn't even play VSpan when Alston and Head didn't do jack.

Having said that, I think we had a great chance to win if we didn't have the early foul trouble.

But the game is over, so let's just look forward to the next. I'm just glad that no one is injured (as opposed to last year).

What I don't understand is why JVG let Padgett stay in so long while Boozer was tearing him a new one. Twenty minutes...are you kidding me?!? Why did he leave V-Span, one of the few creators and high-energy defensive players on the team, on the bench?

Can someone please tell Yao's teammates that there is a 7'6" Chinese man who plays on their team? Reefer should never, EVER finish a game with more shots than Yao...UNACCEPTABLE

I think what T-Mac is going through is similar to Amare, though of course not as extreme. He's feeling his way back from a devastating injury and trying to regain confidence in his body. As the season progresses we will find out if he becomes another Vinsanity -- afraid of taking contact. But I think he'll bounce back.

The rockets look confused tonight. One on one iso on offense, and nth else. little penetration, little ball movement. When Tmac got the ball, everybody watching him one on one, and when Yao got the ball, nobody's cutting to the rim, or settin up screens for open shots.(except for the Snyder dunk). On defensive, the team is not the same two years ago. Great addition to have battier, but Tmac has lost everything on defensive side, and Yao hasnt got to his top shape. There's no team defense at all. Rafer is too weak, and Paddget...whoever played againist Paddget made their shots. Just horrible first game, but we still have 81 more games to play. I'm just worried this rockets team will be destroyed by teams with scoring PFs. KG, Brand, Duncan, Dirk, Amare, Bosh, J O'Neil. It's just scary to imagine Battier againist those guys.

Do you think its reasonable that there will be a HUGE turnaround by next game? Because evidently in this game we were extremely underwhelmed by the performance we thought the Rockets were capable of.... the talent is there, and JVG is constantly talkign about team chemistry but is it there? is that desire, the hunger for a championship really there? From Tmac and Rafer jacking up shots and not doing whats BEST For the team i feel sorry for yao, he should have taken more shots and should have been used much more, sure great if tmac is hitting them he should keep it up, but when he is lacking the touch Yao is a very formidable scoring option, at times unstoppable. I can understand Tmac taking shots as he is a proven scorer , but why in the world is rafer trying to take over reigns as scorer, the only shining light over him to mike james and why i originally liked him better was because of his passing ability, so what does he do? jack up bricks 24/7. We dont need for another scorer to step up, we have yao and tmac, play off them , when ones off, go to the other. tongiht also emphasised our weakness at defending the PF, boozer is a good player but what im scared about are the many other PFs out there who are much bigger/stronger and athletic then him whose gonna guard them? As for not playing Vspan, he did okay but his turn over rate is too much of an issue, so i think JVG did the right thing in not playing him, and in a game with a high number of fouls he would have been gone pretty quick anyway, Vspan will get playing time at the end of 4th quaters when we're up by 30 or so, and until he eases his way into the NBA and can control his TO rate i dont see him getting playing time when we're behind.

Positives to take from this game: ..... struggling, no injuries? Yao?
Negatives: everything, we need to change something, and do it drastic, AND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD PRACTICE FREE THROWS U LAZY F%@$#%@#%ERS

BATTIER is a sticky defender, can match quickness with the best of them when getting in position for a charge, but that wont help him when it comes to getting posterised by the bigger, stronger PFs in this league.

Most SF guarding TMAC are already at a disadvantage, but in SG position the size and strength advantage greatly emphasised.

next game should try tmac at 2, battier at 3, but the dilemma is the PF position, if not Battier, Jho, WHO IS THERE that can guard BIG MEN? i reckon they should throw deke in there, WHY NOT, Yao doesnt need a backup, if his at full strength his stamina can last for whole games easily, Deke still can offer a great defensive presence which is greatly needed especially up against teams with the bigger PFs, Deke can rest and interchange with J-ho. Novak can be more of a backup at 3, and hayes can , i dunno do whatever.

well i wasnt talking to you but you're practically the same joyless, depressing, sucking of life that is aceshigh, so i guess i can see the confusion. it's just sad, do you get any joy out of watching any of the houston teams?

ONE f#$king game and it already starts. one game. we're talking about one game. i know it's important, but we're talking about one game. one game.

BigM, you're pretty clueless and you really should just STFU. You're just digging yourself a deeper hole.

I'm not one of the negative sky is falling types. I gave Van Gundy a chance despite preferring either Dunleavy or a couple of other options. Van Gundy is not the right fit for this team. Stating that does not make me overly negative, anti-Rockets, biased, or anything else. It's stating the facts. Van Gundy's philosophy is all defense. We have gone from an already poor offensive scheme under Rudy to an even worse offense. And as for his vaunted defense? Look at the facts.

This team has a great deal of explosive talent. It has underachieved under Van Gundy and will continue to. I stated on this board two years ago that if the Rockets succeed it will be because the talents of T-Mac & Yao were able to overcome the horrendous job of head coaching that Van Gundy is giving us.

Van Gundy's coaching style works best with a group of tough, physical, unspectacular but capable players. Imposing his coaching style with that type of personnel can produce a decent slightly above average result (see mid-90's NY Knicks).

But with the players that the Rockets have, it is a different situation completely. Van Gundy is not and will not maximize the effectiveness of Yao and T-Mac. With the Rockets team, we need a game plan tailored to our stars. Not have Van Gundy's scheme imposed on this team. It's dragging this team down from what it is capable of.

Since you're so eager to toss around personal insults, why don't you meet me somewhere tomorrow and we can talk face to face? I live in the south part of town but just let me know when and where and we'll see what you have to say to me then.

Not particularly. Am i supposed to be getting any joy out of the pathetic display of offense las year and here we go again season....?

Not a new trend. lets not forget last season. Its a continuation of JVG coaching philosophy. You must enjoy the suckage.

This is what the starting line up should be. Jeff Van Gundy, pay attention and LOOK!!!

    Point Guard: TMac
    Shooting Guard: Bonzi Wells
    Small Forward: Shane Battier
Power Forward: Juwan Howard or Chuck Hayes
    Center: Yao Ming

It's Reece Gaines, not Barret, whom we have traded for Mike James. ;)

Detroit lost today, so they are lottery bound and their coach sucks balls

Seriously you guys just need to calm down and let the season play out. I for one didnt expect us to get off to a 10-0 start(but I did expect them to win today, but not dissapointed). I mean every season the starters around yao and tmac changes, not to mention most of the team. What did you guys expect with a completely overhauled roster and starting lineup. You guys serioulsy think training camp + preseason + overhauled roster = championship caliber chemistry.

After 7mins of game time each:

    Novak's stats were 1-4fg , he hit a 3.

    Hayes grabbed 2rbs.

While Padgett was 1-2fg, a 3 pointer and had 3rbs.

I'm guessing JVG went with the least worse PF to start the 2nd half.

Thats what training camp and the preseason is for. I don't think this loss would've been sucha big deal to everyone if it wasn't for our guys lookin so damn lost out there. It honestly looked like their first time playing together. We just got dominated through most of the game and it was painfull to watch.

I know things will start to get better as things roll along but just for once it'd be nice to have a decent start for the season.
