Didn't see this, but the audio link is online: http://a1135.g.akamai.net/f/1135/18....com/18227/podcast/HOUSTON-TX/KBME-AM/JVG.mp3
No truer words have ever been spoken. His voice can be annoying at times, but he knows his stuff for sure. Listening now...
oooo. Looks like luther gets the first chance at the backup point. I'm happy actually, but I expect vspan to take that over next year and luther backing up the two. (Not to jinx it lol but I don't think Wells will be back) Jeffs looking for that 5th starter that makes the first unit gel. He felt that no matter who he put out there as the fifth starter, the first unit didn't play well enough. He's looking for snyder to defend the best 2 or 3. Who is the fifth starter needs to make sacrifices. Jeff also said that right now billy isn't in the rotation, but if he harnesses his skills he could be. He's has too much heart and passion not to. He like Battier at the 4. He thinks he could be efficient anywhere he plays. When he aquired shane, he was looking to play bigger, but after seeing him in action, He's looking to maybe start small and then bigger through the course of the game. Again, he said nothing about juwan. I'm still waiting for a trade to be made.
i heard them mention this was available online earlier today but forgot to check. thanks for the link, van gundy= best interview in the league.
Thanks for the quick recap. Sitting in class on your computer has it's perks, but turning on the volume for an interview would definitely get me in trouble
Palillo is awesome. He's the best sports talk host in the biz, IMO. He's smart and knows his pop culture, which is a huge plus. I can't stand when other sports radio hosts butcher pop references (see Colin Cowherd).
Palillo is the best on the radio in Houston, for sure. Now if you want a guy who could fight his way out of a wet paper bag, he's not your man.
i know there was one recap but here's mine just to add to the discussion: bonzi won't be active for the first game and JVG will "play it by ear". says bonzi is a quick learner and it doesn't take him long to catch up. "he's very bright". when he's 100% healthy he'll play. JVG's idea when traded for shane was to start games with a big line-up and finish with him at the 4. however, he opens the court so much better as a 4 that he'll see most of his time there. may go big during the course of the game. not sure how things will work out, but will see how things go as far as line-up's. thinks because shane hasn't played a lot of the 4 no one knows how he'll handle the constant banging's that go on in the paint. says we'll have to see if he can keep his rebounding up. would like to get yao and tmac around 36 minutes per game. tmac might see more depending on the game. thinks DAL, SAS, PHO, will win high 50's - low 60's. says it's dificult to predict a win total which he would be happy with. thinks he could be upset if we only win 53 game or may be happy if we win 49 depending on how the season plays out. he tihnks when there are 3 teams (mentioned above) that everyone can agree will win high 50's, it's very dificult to have another team reach mid 50's in the same conference. "i dont get into the predictions. all i want our team to do is play as well as we can, and improve each month and each week so that we're a much better team in april." conserned about the backup PG spot. it's not his natural possition but he gives us the best chance to be solid there. could help with on ball defense there. will help with spreading the floor. worries about defense and rebounding (no kidding) when we go small to spread the floor. thinks that we must improve our offense from last year but that improving one area (offense) at the cost of another (defense/rebounding) will not give you an overall improvement. kirk has the athletic ability to be a good nba player. "pretty good skill level". must play a smarter game. hasn't liked how anyone up for the 5th starter spot has worked with the other 4 guys. wants to see kirk prove that he can help the 4 starters fit together. he needs to be a defensive stopper on the best wingman. billy started rough. improved, then took a step back. needs to limit the fouls and TO's. just needs to become an efficient player instead of a flashy one. JVG feels optimistic. believes that we have a good group. wants to see the team continue to improve through the season so we can play against the best.
hahahah somebody from there thinks that we're strongest at the 2 and 3 when we have one of the last remaining big men in the NBA.
It worries me a little bit when he said he'd like to get tmac 36-38 minutes and maybe more. Just hope tmac won't need to play that many minutes night in night out for us to win.
