When you think about West Coast rap and who made that term huge in the mainstream, it was a very tight knit group. You go back to NWA, D.O.C., Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Too Short, Ice T, Snoop, and then Tupac. These are some monster names in the industry and most of them were spawned from NWA (Cube, Dre, Eazy E, D.O.C. (born in Houston from what I recall and could have been one of the greatest), and hell, Eazy even introduced the country to Bone Thugs). Tupac is gone (anybody remember when he was on Digital Underground? Humpty hump!), Eazy is gone, Dre is still around, but more in a producer's role, D.O.C. sadly tore up his vocal cords, Ice Cube is more into acting, Too Short isn't on the level of the others, and Snoop is pimpin' cars for Lee Iacoca and making p*rn, and Ice T is long past his rap prime. And guess what? West Coast rap ain't what it used to be. The South has taken over.

I'm not a huge fan of his, but I have to admit I blew up laughing at his line "backstroke, breaststroke, stroke of a genius!" the first time I heard it.

It's great to see some people here who know about Z-Ro

Z-Ro is a top 5 rapper to me personally. He is the southern version of Pac. He actually sounds almost exactly like him in a lot of his earlier work. He has the emotion of Pac, the twisting flow of Krayzie Bone and a singing voice that can be compared to Nate Dogg.

And he has a DEEP catalog. 17 albums I think?

2pac could outrap this scrub in his sleep. No one should EVER compare 'the game' to 2pac, thats comparing Shawn Bradley to Hakeem!!!

Z-Ro, Trae & Devin are the most underrated outta the H. But the most slept upon H-town artist of all time I would say is K-Rino. Dude is one of the deepest lyricists I've ever heard.

Bringing this thread back because I just listened to The Game's new album and so far I love it. Anyone know the story on why him and Dre are no longer working together? He's got a line in one song mentioning how he did an entire album without a Dre track.

Haha, it does seem like he's always depressed. As long as he doesn't start dressing like an emo it's all good.

I like Z-Ro, and I like The Game..but no one should ever be compared to Tupac. Just like no way in hell Kobe should be compared to MJ; but that's a whole other thread itself.

From listening to his songs his mom died when he was a kid, and his dad wasn't around much.

I've been "previewing" Game's album, and it's good. I think the production on his last album was better though. But you can tell he's going for a more West Coast sound on this one.

As for H.B.M.S. I've only heard 2 songs from them, "If It Wasn't For You" and "The World's Gone Mad". What albums do you recommend from them?

Haha man, I'm from New Orleans and love the CashMoney guys... but really???

His work with Turk in "Hot Girl" is priceless...

Now that's movin' the rap game forward! :D

(Seriously though, Lil Wayne - Shooter, is pretty damn good...)

hbms is completely different... the album is half hiphop and half of everything else. the part that's half hiphip is the kind of hiphop from the late 80's to mid 90's type of rap, when some of it was still fun. rza, folks from de la, blacksheep, jack johnson (good song by him on there), pharrell (sp?), guys from mars volta, and franz... all make an appearance.

i only have their 2004 album called "white people", but i hear that the first is good as well. it's definitely worth buying, imo. check it out online somewhere first though.

He hates everybody. That's how 99% of his songs are. He even has a song about his ex-gf who turned him in to the police lol.
