JVG has said in today's interview that Head and Novak would be the main backups off the bench. That means the backup PG job is Head's, at least for now.

Spanoulis is too risky for now except perhaps for special situations. But he is more promising than I expected. I am sure he will improve into a good NBA player.

I like our depth and future. We have some good young players to develop: Head, Spanoulis, Snyder, Novak, and Hayes. Even Lucas has some potential to be a decent backup PG. With our core starters, Yao, McGrady, and Battier, still under 30 (and Alston just turn 30), we have a very bright future.

Lucas looked so much better in the summer Vegas league. I guess thats what happends when you are playing with lesser competition. I hope he llives up to his potential. Hey, the Knicks let Jalen Rose go last night. He had decent numbers last year but is getting old. He could work in as a backup PG. you know how JVG loves those knicks...

At this point the I think the one that can be less of a defensive liability (i.e. Luther) is going to get the bulk of the minutes. Its going to be a match up situation, against Deron Williams and Derek Fisher, its going to be Luther with T-mac handling the ball if the press comes on.

Against Dallas I'll be surprised to see V-span at all with the speed they have between Harris and Terry. Anyway the point is, the rotation will follow the match ups.

He was allowed to freelance and look for his shot in the summer league, he is more of a Calvin Murphy undersized 2 guard than a pG.

Head is the easy pick. He's the most experienced in general and especially w/ the team. I like Vspan, but he does the one thing you don't want to see your point guard do: turnover. Vspan joins the team under cirumstances similar to Yao: different country, different league, rough around the edges but you know he has game underneath that just needs to be shaped and developed. I hope he can follow the same career arc as Yao.

This is one of my biggest concerns for the team this year. The lack of experience at the point after Rafer is scary.

I dunno. I'm not too worried as long as Rafer stays healthy.

TMac plays a role in the PG situation.
Luther seems like he can handle limited minutes at PG.
VSpan hopefully will be able to calm down sooner rather than later. If he does, he'll be good.

    allota 'ifs', huh?

Luther can score but that is about it. I like Billy's upside much, much more.

So, is it safe to assume Sura is being kept for the sole purpose of tradebait? Otherwise, shouldn't his name be mentioned in this debate? (even if it is a slim chance of a full recovery)

I actually prefer T-Mac to be the starting Point.

With Head and KillBilly at the Guard spots. Better D and 3 range.

Rafer should come into the game with Bonzi.

    Yao
    Battier
    McGrady
    Head
    Spanoulis

Now that will be some nice perimeter D.

2nd string: Padget can back up Yao, Novak for Battier, Bonzi and Snyder at the swing spots, Rafe at point. This allows Bonzi to post up and w/o Juwan crowding the paint.

I have no idea what happened to Luther Head that last game, but I assume it had something to do with the funeral. I can't really excuse him for it, but it came completely out of left field, so I don't really think it's any real indication of what he's capable of.

Before that game, he was playing VERY well in the pre-season... Hell, the flip-flopping on this board alone is enough to prove it. Just a few days ago there was that thread about how Head was "making a case for more minutes" when he played incredibly in his first game.

Let's give him a chance in some regular season action before we decide he's a scrub, eh? I still love what I've seen from Luther and what he brings to the table.
