Please, someone who actually knows, what effect does a 'buyout' have on a team's Luxury Tax situation? A cut player, ie Flyin'Ryan, counts $ for $ against both the cap and lux for the duration of his contract, yes? But is a bought out player treated differently?

    Thanks.

I'm 99% sure that the cap figure remains as is for the original life of the contract. While the Rockets might not be paying Bowen next year (if he were under contract for 07-08), his cap figure would remain.

This is correct. A buyout simply sidesteps the waiver to free up a roster spot (for less than the total amount owed), but the original contract figures stay on the NBA books.

Matt Maloney still counted against our cap #'s up until last year, if I'm not mistaken, despite that he last played for us like 4 years ago.

Yep, and he received a check after each game for $39,500

    That must be the life!
