It's about time for another rousing thread about a documentary, so here we go! http://www.freedomtofascism.com/ I haven't had a chance to check this one out yet, but I expect it to pop up at the Angelika or River Oaks Landmark soon. I know all the conservatives reading this thread are automatically thinking this must be some insane left-wing stab at painting Bush into a nazi. But surprise, it isn't! What we've got here is a dual-blame bipartisan politico-docu-drama about the control exerted by the federal government over its citizens and the surprising lack of information and accountability from one of America's most visible and powerful "government" agencies. Don't be put off by the tin-foil hat premise, give it a look and tell us what you think: Google Video Trailer
I particularly liked the bit about how the bankers are screwing us having the government borrow money when they could just print it for free. Followed by the segment on how they'd destroyed the purchasing power of the buck. Thanks for the link. I enjoyed it. Like all the conspiracy theories rolled into one...kind of fun to watch.
movie has been released on google video. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4312730277175242198&q=America:+Freedom+to+Fascism
maybe i should have made the thread title "did you know that you're not legally bound, obligated, or liable in any way to pay a federal income tax?" that might turn more heads.
I dont have the patience to watch this but why aren't we legally bound to pay the federal income tax? Also rhester would probably be a big fan of this.
I saw the movie at the Angelika. Very good movie, a must see. The Income tax issue takes up the first 30 minutes and is kind of a waste of time, since as Christians we must pay our taxes- can't escape that one. But the rest of the doc really covers how authoritarian, Orwellian and fascist the government is headed. Covers alot of unbelievable executive orders. It does not go in depth enough about the power of the private bankers who own the Federal Reserve System, but that is the underlying theme of the movie. It is not a conspiracy movie, even though I love a good conspiracy. It is more of a question and answer movie- why is this happening and nobody cares? You will leave the movie angry, I promise.
I have read much better on these issues, but it is a movie I wish everyone who loves America could see. Actually the movie spends too much time on the IRS and not enough time on the Federal Reserve System. The point is made that the taxes collected by the IRS on individuals is used to pay interest to the bankers, which is true, but it should have been a larger focus in the movie. It covers the Reagan administration research that personal income tax was not used to pay for any government services and that government services were funded by borrowing money. But unless you have well researched this issue you will probably miss it in the movie. Over all though Russo does a good job in the end of point out - SOMETHING IS WRONG in America.
Russo's use of the "beligerent lady getting tazered" video was a great example of slight of hand editing. If you've seen the full video (just google it) you'll see the cop arguing with her for nearly 5 minutes asking her to cooperate and get out of the car since her licenses is suspended and she's not supposed to be driving. The woman gets more and more rude and belligerent until the point where she becomes obviously threatening and violent. The officer does what any officer should do to subdue an unruly criminal. Shame on Russo. The rest of the movie is real A+ material though.
