He's still a hell of an offensive force. A complete jackass, too. If they can get him to shut up for a season and not give up too much, then why not? I'm just not sure he'll stay quiet for too long.
Scary...cause Drayton loves the big splash. He might actually go for this. We don't need a rental. I honestly think we had our run, now we need young guys to go with Oswalt and Berkman and need to put a product on the field that might miss the playoffs another year or two...but will be excellent for the next decade
Maybe trade for him and give them nothing. Then turn around and trade him to Boston for Manny? Now, I know that wouldn't happen....and I wouldn't want Manny. But if we could give up nothing to get the guy.....why not. Then we can still add Dontrelle, Woody, and possibly another pitcher. $13 mil for Shef. $2 mil for Woody. $8 mil for Dontrelle. $13 mil for Lee????? How much money are we subtracting with the losses of Roger and Bagwell alone, not to mention Pettitte? I'll spend Drayton's money.
seems kinda weird, but if we don't have to give up all that much . . . go for it. Depends on how desperate the NYY are to shake things up . . . I'm all for taking advantage of their situation.
The only pitcher I'd be willing to trade Sheffield for is Oswalt, and the astros aren't going to do that.
If the Astros are going to make a trade for an outfielder, I'd prefer it be Vernon Wells. No one is going to trade you their strong hitting and fielding SS or C so might as well try and fix the other weak hitting position in our lineup.
End of discussion, Shef was traded to the Detroit Tigers, for 3 prospects. It was in the Chronicle on 11/11/06.
