I'm not trying to be too rude, but you can't really be this sheltered and dense? no one is asking you to agree or disagree with the word n!gga, but you have to understand there is a difference between n!gga and n!gg*r. if you don't understand it then I don't know what to say. we should just send this thread straight to d&d.
Only on the internet can someone take a racist comment and say it isnt. This thread shows how far apart people really are
Just remotely related: I went to the Magic-Rox game in Orlando last season. I am a Chinese-American (born in Cleveland and raised in South FL) and the couple next to me, particularly the girlfriend, frequently made many racist remarks about Yao. I didn't pay attention and tried to brush it off, but my girlfriend was the one sitting right next to them and after the game she told me how incessant they were. To this day I sometimes think about it and I'm pissed off I didn't pay attention and confront them. Unfortunately I think fans in that atmosphere would never claim they were racist, just 'supporting' their team. At the very least, I do remember that we crushed the Magic and Yao had a solid game (25+ pts?). It does leave a bad taste in my mouth, and although I've considered getting tickets for the next Magic-Rox game, I think I'll pass after this incident.
nothing makes people look more ignorant than their buying into racial stereotypes and then propagating the discrimination by regurgitating ridiculous comments like these. monkey... ...freakin' backwoods redneck
I don't and won't understand that argument. That's a cop out. If the word's offensive to you (and it should be), you shouldn't be using it in any form if you're gonna chastize others for using it. Bill Cosby nailed this subject.
I was shocked when I saw that happen, Mutumbo is such a class act and a community driven person. I did see some orlando players even supporting Deke or atleast showed anger over what happened.
Well I just read through more replies in this thread. Clearly this fan's remark was racist. I can't even debate the issue, it's so obvious that if you can't see it you are seriously out of touch w/ reality. It's like trying to argue whether a rose is a rose or a rose is a car. This fan clearly said it because he was in the safety of the stands. He wouldn't have the nerve to say anything if he saw Mutombo on the street. That's what obnoxious idiots do. And as for freedom of speech, in this case what the fan said could easily incite violence not only w/ the players but his fellow fans too. The arena and the NBA should ban the idiot for a year. They have a right to ensure safety and throw out unruly people.
But words themsleves aren't (or shouldn't be) offensive. It's the idea behind a word that is offensive. The context in which it is used. If "******" meant cheese in some foreign language, does it become offensive if someone speaking that language says he wants cheese?
Well, man, I do understand your feeling under that circumstances. I once travelled to the U.S. and heard the type of racist "comments" on Yao and Chinese which made me really angry. Although I can't speak English as good as native speakers, I still "argued" with them and stood up for Yao. I really feel sick about that experience. Hopefully, clutchfans see people equal.
So, 3rd times a charm: WHAT DID HIS SHIRT SAY? I can't believe everyone was offended by it and NO one SAW it. PLEASE LMK
It's sad too. Anyone that tries to justify what that fan did in a political way is just a closet bigot that hides behind his/her monitor. It’s sad, but we have a few amongst us right now.
I'm pretty the guy didn't just say "Hey Monkey that's a foul!" and got Deke riled up like that, there was more said and most likely numerous occasions and Deke finally got past the breaking point and couldn't stand it anymore.
rofls this topic shouldnt have been presented..i dont think this is going to die down. slavery will forever be a sensitive and harshley debated issue...for him to say that and not be remorseful is his fault. i wouldn't blame deke for getting offended if i called him the cookie monster. if he gets offended whos to say if it was justifiably being racial? only deke has the right to choose how to interpret it.. so dont call anyone a monkey or throw drinks at them.. the end.
By cage fighter, I assumed you mean fighting with his pet macabe in the little cage in his bedroom? I still bet everything I have including my beautiful, sexy wife that Deke will laid him out under 90 seconds... A couple of flying elbows to the dome and when the r****d is on the ground writhing in pains, Deke will put him out of his misery with a guillotine choke hold!
I would love to see Dikembe go into the stands and kick some ass. I'm sure he'd kill the person but it would look really funny. If it was for a good reason it would be very entertaining.
I don't think people are assuming that deke's gonna deck the guy because the guys bad but because deke is over 7 feet tall and has the strength and conditioning of a profesional athlete.. if it was jvg, hell yeah jvg's gonna be decked.. if some pro athlete gets into a brawl one on one with no weapons, I'd put my money down with the pro not a matter of who's right or wrongg or good or bad..
Man, I think you're a big wuss to our race! This is what me and my boys did during Yao's rookie year. Me and my fellow Asian homies went to a Warriors game in Oakland just to see Yao Ming play. That's the same game Yao made his first NBA career 3-pointer. All of us was wearing Yao jerseys too. When Yao was shooting his free throws, some idiotic middle aged White guy sitting two rows below us yelled out "FRUCK that CH*NK!" My cousin yelled at him and said "FRUCK you stupid trailer trash!" He looked at us, I threw my cup of soda right in his face. The rest of our group stood up and I said "you want some of this?" That fool got scared and sat his azz down. End of the game, we followed him to the parking lot and my cousin beat the crap out of him. Ain't nobody better use any racist sh1ts on us. Cause they bout to get some kung fu beatdown! HAHAHA!
