I don't know... I don't think you've ever seen him talk about Isaiah Rider, then. :D

As a white guy raised in a Racist Home (here in Texas mostly) by a true East-Texas Red-Neck, I can attest to the use of the term "tree-monkey's" as one of the most insidious and obscene variations on the theme discussed here.

I have NO PROBLEM with Deke's anger, threats and promises related to this facistic, and un-American rhetoric!!!!

Fortunately, I divorced myself from my father's philisophical beliefs when I was about the age of 14 and now try to align myself only with those for whom tolerance of others is a high priority. But he's still a racist and I still hang up on him when he uses a racial epithet, which thank god is less often these days....

I'm stunned by some of the naivete on this board. Racism is alive and well in the good ole U.S.A folks... and though I know I'll get flamed for this... there's a reason that one of our political parties have less than 10% of African-Americans supporting them at the polls.

White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (and lots of Catholics too) Males, especially those raised south of the Mason-Dixon line grew up with a type of institutionalized racism and sadly it has not gone away. Southern women either participate in it or simply tolerate it....

Also sadly, the deep south, includes the southeast for which Orlando and other parts of Florida still count and you can't get much further south than Orlando....

For what it's worth, I send my apologies to Deke that he would have to hear such vile garbage in any American venue, especially one where he's performing for the benefit and entertainment of an audience. Most of us are better people Deke, and when you come back to H-Town, we'll have your back anytime!!!!

I wonder what planet some of you guys are on? Calling a black man a "monkey" is about as big a racial slur you could say. It's one thing to taunt, boo and talk trash to players but crossing racial boundaries is another level and should not be tolerated at all.

    Ok two things:

It is a very racistic comment from that fan, and it happens way to often in soccer here. You should really punish this fan, because you do not want it to become a regular thing.

    Second:
I do not understand why player respond to insults. If you respond that guy has won because that was exactly what he wanted from you. I have been bashed by supporters for the opponent during games, but i always took pride from it, since i knew they were not happy with me, and that is good.
People should just ignore the fans who try to insult you, otherwise they won.(the same i said about Zidane's action in the WC).

    1. Yes, it's racism. The guy is a punkass idiot. Obviously.

    2. Deke should try not to take it to heart. All of us, as human beings, are highly evolved monkeys anyway

    3. This thread is headed for D&D. I'm just facilitating the process :p

For some reason.. While I was reading this, I busted out laughing picturing mutombo b!tch-slapping this @$$ clown then do his finger wave. Guy completely deserves it. Its just sad how racism is still alive this day and age and to make it worse, I don't see racism going away anytime soon.

(Although I admit I yelled towards Ewing a number of times calling him a Gorilla or something back in the 90's....)

It wasn't meant as anything racist, just that the dude moved and looked like one. Hell, those were the good years. Watching Hakeem tear it up against Pat.

Ummm, yeah, it's racial to call a guy you don't know a monkey. I'm pretty sure the fan called him that because he's from Africa.

As a black guy I see nothing wrong with that because Patrick Ewing did, indeed, look like a gorilla. Carry on.

though i'm sure dominique really slipped in that comment.

    anyhow...

i wish mutombo wouldn't have made the "going into the stands" comment. i can't imagine how it won't get fined for it.

I've referred to Ewing as "the missing link" since the early 90's, so I hope that doesn't make me a racist. The dude just looks that way. Just like Sam I Am looks like an alien, so people call him "E.T.".

    If a non-rocket fan calls Dike a monkey, that's a bad thing.

If a rocket fan calls him a monkey here at Toyota Center, it's a good thing.

There's a positive aspect of monkeys. They're playful and smart.

That is strange because a lot of European soccer teams have many players of African decent. England, France, Netherlands, etc. The only ones that don't are probably Germany and Italy. I can see them being idiots and doing that especially German fans. They are not fond of anyone without blonde hair.

This rascist slur is right up there with people on here who say someone should be "raped" Wake up!!!!! This SO offensive to women .....................and their husbands, family, etc. Did you know a woman is physically assulted in the USA every 15 seconds? Think about it. You're either part of the solution or part of the problem.

We all KNOW when we say "he oughta kill that guy" it's whole different thing,
and yes, words are poweful weapons...............there is no good place in this world for rascism and sexism.
