Here's the text. ROCKETS NOTES: Practice preferred By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Rockets guard Bonzi Wells is expected to make his preseason debut tonight in Orlando, but he was ambivalent at best about getting in a game before tonight's game completes the preseason schedule. "I don't even know if I'm going to play," Wells said after a pregame workout before Tuesday's win in Miami. "Preseason doesn't count. I don't really care for it. I'd rather practice than play in a preseason game, to tell the truth. "Preseason doesn't count and if I do play, I won't play very many minutes so it will probably be a waste. If he wants me to, I'm going to do what coach wants me to. But personally, I don't think it matters. I'd just rather practice." Sura keeps trying Rockets guard Bob Sura is still working toward a comeback, Sura's Miami-based agent Jeff Wechsler said before Wednesday's game. "Bob's working hard on his rehab," Wechsler said. "I don't think anyone has reached a conclusion." Sura has been out since the 2005 playoffs with back and knee problems and is now trying to come back from micro fracture knee surgery. Dress rehearsal The Rockets likely will go with most of their regulars tonight in Orlando and probably with regular-season minutes, coach Jeff Van Gundy said. Though playing the second half of a back-to-back, Van Gundy said his team needs playing time in game situations in the preseason finale. "Unless I have a change of mind, we're going to play (today), too," he said. "I think our team needs work. "For us, the chance of taking an injury is outweighed by getting your team ready. I don't think there is any way as you can see through all these training camps to avoid injuries." Though he wants to duplicate the regular-season mindset as much as possible, Van Gundy said the starting lineups Wednesday and tonight might not be the starting lineup for the Nov. 1 opener. "I haven't made a decision at all on that," he said.
Bonzi is giving us $2 million worth which is about 20% to him. He thinks since he signed cheap that he's entitled to slack off...just going to show up and start playiing so he can get his big payday that he walked away from? JVG is going to go along with that - and rightfully so. This may not turn out so good.
bonzi hasta play well if he wants to get paid...since he's looking for more money..he needs to increase his value..by showing other teams he's the real deal..and not some troubled slacker
It's the PRE-SEASON or did I miss something? Give him a liitle slack before proclaiming unfit to wear a Rockets uniform. Now, Head needed work today. he was WAAAAY off but I would give him a bye for this game. 0 for 10 or something like that.
I wouldn't say he was unfit to be a Rocket, but one generally prefers players who are eager to play and be involved with the team.
He never said he wasn't eager. He said he wants to practice, which I think is good. He knows he needs to knock some rust off but just doesn't feel that preseason games are the place to do it. That's fine by me. He sounds like he wants the season to start as soon as possible and I don't see anything wrong with that mentality.
He did say he;ll do what coach tells him to do. He just said he doesn't think pre-season is important and that he'd rather practice.
i dont see anything wrong with these comments. bonzi wants to practice instead of playing a preseason game. bonzi probably knows he will be the sixth man off the bench so preseason is nothing to him. i think practice will be more beneficial and get him in shape just as well. the way i see it you only get better or get the best out of yourselves by playing better players or at the least the same caliber players as yourself. if bonzi played in the preseason he would be coming off the bench against the the 2nd/3rd/4rd teams of the opponents and it would do nothing to help his game out since he would own them all anyway. get him ready for the season cant wait for him to play next week
