As such a hottie in the eye of JVG, you guys honestly think Bowen will be released? Come on, folks, use your brain first!

Sura, Padgett, Bowen, Jacobson are all scrubs and it doesn't matter who among them we cut. In fact maybe we should cut them all and sign up someone like Leon Powe of the Celtics who may get cut by them.

I don't think Padgett or Casey should be cut. They are our insurance to keep spacing, if Trey-Vak misses some games due to injury.

JVG - last year of his contract....

It will all come down to CD and Morey.

Hmmm, that's true and Bowen is a tradable, expiring contract as well...

does anyone have any info on sura? i think it's likely he's finished because we haven't heard anything. but then again we haven't heard ANYTHING so it's still possible that he is making progress.

i don't see the point of keeping jacobsen or bowen.

    no info on sura
Otherwise, its evident RYBO and CJ are the cuts to make. CJ brings nothing on the offensive side of the court that Novak and Padgett dont provide. Rybo provides some defense, but not nearly enough to justify a roster spot. I think all we need is a defensive stopper at PF, preferably someone who can also provide the same as BU at center, and we're set. Add Cato to the mix and I think we're 100%. JHo wouldnt be a liabilty, could use his midrange jumper, but could pull him to go to a defensive stand. Even a Lonny Baxter, whatever happened with his legal probs, would fit the bill. I have to believe there's some 'under the radar' commodity that could fill this role.
But definantly keep Padgett over CJ.

Sura will retire. But since Bowen hasn't played in this new team, it is unfair to cut him. The best is to cut Lucas (yeah, he has two year contract, but Rockets already earned a lot of money for his boss).

I've been surprised at the lack of Sura news. I had hoped beyond hope that we'd hear something good about his recovery, but the longer we go with no strong indication, the more I feel a sense of dread. I know that a lot of fans never thought Sura was "the guy" for us, but what he lacked in skills [and he was no slouch, just not all-star quality], he more than made up for with passion, hard work, and basketball IQ. I honestly believe he could have been the one to put this year's team over the bar, but realistically, I know that it was always a long shot considering Sura's injuries. Too many miles.

On the other hand, it looks like Alston has genuinely been putting in some time and improving his shooting.

I'm all for losing Bowen and Sura, simply cause they will not see court time. I dont think Bowen will even play dallas games to go after dirk, cause his offense is just that bad. i'd rather have Battier chasing Dirk around.

I don't want Sura back. He hasn't played a full season since we got him and it be only a matter of time before he was out of action again. We need Luther and Vasillis playing the minutes that Sura would get.

Like the expression. :) Add VSpan on the list for now.

No matter their problems with preseason, we are not cutting JL3 and VSpan. We saw enough promise in them to sign multiyear deals. Even if JVG would not trust JL3 with a meaningfull minute this year just consider him a low priced rookie investment. He has at least a full year, maybe two, before we would determine he is hopeless.

THE SURE THINGS/NORMAL ROTATION PLAYERS (11): Yao Ming, Luther Head, Tracy McGrady, Steve Novak, Rafer Alston, Kirk Snyder, Shane Battier, Hayes, Bonzi, Deke, Howard.

THE MOP UP "victory cigar" PLAYERS: VSpan, JL3 (2)

I really think Scott Padgett has cemented the 14th spot. I think he is relugated for the MOP UP squad with JL3 and VS for most circumstances--and I don't think he would complain about that either, but if Novak or SB or Tmac or Howard or Hayes is inactive, you have a guy that can step right in and give you quality minutes.

I think the nest big question is do we have a practical 15th spot (or do we just keep Sura or Bowen there with no hope for meaningfull minutes, ever)? This is largely a CD/Morey decision as DD alluded to. Playerwise, if we have a 15, CJ would be #15. He would be a veteran injury protection player for Snyder or Wells. However CJ hasn't played well, and whether we think he adds enough insurance relative to the cost of keeping him (warrent eating Bowen's expiring contract and adding his, losing trade flexability, losing a roster spot for another potential addition, etc), I don't know. I really don't think it matters much, but my preference would be to keep CJ over Bowen and Sura just in case.

I agree with your top 13 and it's obvious Padgett has made the team. Both Sura and Bowen are gone. Any attempt by either to come back would just mess up our team chemistry and rotation for what would end up being very marginal contributions at best. I think they haven't been cut yet is just courtesy from the Rockets. In Sura's case, they will let him make the decision he is done.

I wouldn't add V-Span to the victory-cigar list just yet. He might see a few meaningful minutes early on. JL3 won't even be on the active roster much this season. I would like to keep CJ. He's about as good a 15th player as there is. Plus, he will get his shooting stroke back at some point. IMO, he is playing OK except for the cold shooting.
