<ol> <li>learned more about defense at NY....likes his defense <li>knows more than shooting <li>foot good....still in rehab....knock on wood. The thing people have to realize is that I've been in a cast the past 6 weeks, so my leg is decimated by lack of exercise. So, I need to strengthen the leg. <li>I'll be ready to go day 1" <li>Question: New RULES? Zones...."I think it depends what type of team, and how many shooters you have,,,,a lot of shooters should open it up. With the shooters and a low post guy, a low post guy would get better opportunities." <li>Question: Least appreciated aspect of game?......"Effort on the defensive end. I don't see too many going out and scoring 20-30 on me." <li>"Lakers and NY were a different experience for me." 3rd Option. "Hopefully in Houston, I'll be asked to do a whole lot more. And be able to produce." <li>Question: Silver lining?......Are you fresher for not being a primary scorer the last 3 yrs....."Yes, I have preserved my legs the last 3 yrs." <li>Question: Cuttino shooting too much? "I don't think I'll be a primary option. You can have 3 to 4 guys who can average 10-15 shots. As far as me being the primary guy, I don't think that is needed." </ol>
allow me to add some editorial comments. He never mentioned Cuttino by name. The 610 guys seemed to have sprung that one on him. He seemed political about his role, although he did sound sincere in that he likes a shooters team. My gut impression was Cuttino shooting was a non-issue, because he likes the idea of being on a perimeter team with a CLEAR role. In LA, he was not on a perimeter team....thus his #5 response, which sounded like an argument he had with Phil Jackson. In NY, they had too many guys player Rice's standard role. my 2 cents.
I heard it too. crispee got pretty much everything. Even if he's not young/healthy enough to do so with much effectiveness, if he can help teach NY's help defense to Steve and Cat, they could be an effective defensive backcourt. NY didn't have a bunch of great individual defenders outside of Sprewell and Kurt Thomas, with Camby as their eraser, but had outstanding team defense.
Take your pick: a) a Knicks fan, realizing that his team just paid $42 million for Shandon Anderson b) gettinbranded, whining over the fact that the NBA STILL hasn't made any Elton Brand Clippers jerseys c) The pastor at my church, a diehard Cowboys fan (pretty much explains it all)
An awkward beginning to the interview though wasnt it? Someone just calls to pretty much diss the Glen Rice trade, asking why in the world the Rockets just got a 34 year old with bad feet and probably bad knees, who cant play any defense. And why are we paying so much money for someone who is supposed to play a role like Bullard. And the 610 guys answer, " To answer that, why dont we just go to the source, here is Glen Rice joining us........." but the interview went well. crispee covered everything........
All jokes aside, old school, are u Mark Berman????? Theres gotta be four of you running around. How do you know so much Mark? jk man, im glad we got people like you who are all over the place
Man, you guys get to the bottom of everything. Granted, this was on the radio, but it seems you guys get the smallest details. With all the info we get , I don't think we'll ever get enough of it to satisfy us. Let me be the Xth person to thank all you guys who give us all these stories , not for money or props, but plain ole rocket pride. Also, it would be proper to thank the guy of the site. I would think this is a high maintenance site. I don't know how many of you help him out, but there is something to be said for running a site like this without any ads or sponsors. Keep it up guys!
hehe I am not 100% sure I got that correct. They did say "silver lining" and the gist was about whether or not lack of playing time has preserved is career. lame! question yes. totally.....one of the those pre-thought stupid questions like trying to settle a bet or sumpin D), or trying to get him to say sumpin stupid about Cuttino
HAHA Mob! That was an interesting interview. I think Rice will fit in fine, and hopefully the rehab goes as expected. He gives us a veteran influence and a tutor for the younger guys who need help getting open their shots, or working on their shooting. I see the Rockets being a #6 seed, but if Rice IS able to help the Rockets become dedicated to help defense, and he does implement his low post offense and has improved his defense, then the sky's the limit. Thanks for the info crispee!
