Quick recap... Never contemplated retirement through the pain and suffering of last season On JVG being restrictive, says that the Rox will win ball games by going "inside-out", that this is how you "win championships". Defended JVG for last season's debacle. Asked about Yao, T-Mac forced Steven A. to admit that Yao was a "dog" last year in the second half of the season. Said that the only thing Yao does sometimes is that he "defers too much to me" and he needs to take charge and be dominant, not worrying about T-Mac's offense or being the center of attention; T-Mac wants Yao to "take charge" from the beginning, and not defer to him. He said that Yao has proven what he can do "when I am not on the court for him to worry about me," and that now he needs to prove that he can do the same exact thing with McGrady around. In essence, McGrady will willingly and gladly take a 'backseat' to Yao on the offense. In reaction to Tony Parker's guarantee to represent the West in the Finals, T-Mac said that he has to worry about the Rockets before he gets too confident, but said he won't make any guarantees like TP did. Just some of the things he said. Short but good interview...
Heh saw the last min of it... Tmac was talking about yaoming not being agresive enough, and he promises to be healthy whole season. He did not garantee any results when they talked about tony parker garantee spurs to be in finals.
He's a superb interviewer, but I never take his opinions seriously. If you learn to separate the two, you can actually watch the show and get something out of it.
tmac said he has nothing to prove..i disagree with that a whole lot because that makes me think hes just playing and doesnt have any goals..but on the flip side he was saying how tony parker is wrong saying that the spurs are going to be in the championship and you better watch out for the rockets..so take it as you will
I think he meant that he had nothing to prove to the lebron, melo and wades of the league to go out and show he is the best player on the court. it seems to me at least he really doesnt care about the individual stuff anymore and wants to be a winner.
Actually, that's somewhat taking it out of context. The question was about last season, if T-Mac felt like he had anything to prove after the debacle of last season, his reply was, "no, not at all...what I have to prove is that I am healthy." He's right; the theme of last season was an injury-wrecked one, and given that context, he has to prove that he is healthy first, because no one doubts his abilities when healthy. His reply to that question was smart, measured and appropriate to the question being asked.
This was being discussed on another message board and I thought your post summed it up nicely so I used it. Hope you don't mind.
