Just got a full report from my friend Clay in Austin. He had VIP backstage and VIP to the afterparty at the Continental. Ended up hanging out with their new bass player for a while.

He told me he was about a foot away from the blonde tele with the black pickguard. Tuned to G with the five strings. Pretty cool.

During Tumbling Dice he said Keith was about twenty feet away from him. Other notables from the friend report:

about 30 semis for the rig.

Two rigs that they alternate every other show.

Stage rigging was nine stories tall.

Backstage was apparently like a first class circus.

Ron's guitars are esp's... the teles with the binding. I never knew that.

The sound travelled for approximately ten miles.

He was standing by these big propane tanks, thought they were something else until Sympathy for the Devil broke out. Suddenly he's standing near some rather large flames.

I also didn't know that the Continental bought the place that used to be the cool vintage music store above the club. They have a side entrance and it is like a VIP lounge upstairs now with access to the bar (but with its own bar upstairs.

    Regards,
    Brock

Glad ya'll are ok! I've never seen deer on Escarpment, but again....w/ all the construction I'm not surprised.

I broadsided an Elk in the Colorado Rockies some years ago... my little Honda accordian with lights dangling and leaking fluids limped home.

An Elk? OK, I have to attempt to top you. :D

In August of 1969, on our way to the Texas International Pop Festival, two weeks after Woodstock, and with bands that came from there, seven of us crammed ourselves into a VW Bug. It's dark, and we're on our way to Dallas. I'm talking to the driver, one of my best friends and looking over his shoulder, when suddenly there's a big cow, right in front of us! Bam!! We hit that thing in the hind quarters, my friend wrestling for control, and I think we came off worse than the cow. By this time, I've no doubt that it was a MAD cow. Going past it, I spin around to see the silly thing, while we were pulling over. It had gotten up, and was going on across the freeway. To my astonishment, a huge tractor-trailer rig runs right into it. The cow lost that one. Turned out that someone hadn't been taking care of their fences.

We pressed on, a headlight dangling (our stories converge, lol!), and make it to the pop festival. A fantastic time is had (Led Zep, Santana, Spirit, B.B. King, Janis Joplin, Johnny Winter, Herbie Mann, Sly Stone, Ten Years After, over 100,000 people, 3 days of incredible music, etc.), and on the way home, at night, headlight still dangling, we get pulled over by a county sherriff. Don't remember the county, but we end up at the courthouse. Considering our various conditions, it's a miracle, but we're allowed to go after my friend, same one who hit the cow, gets 3 tickets for god knows what. We didn't care... I know he didn't. We were glad to stay out of jail and we all pitched in to pay them.

Now that I think of it, maybe I should stay away from big outdoor rock concerts! ;)

You and me and a hundred thousand other people.

I was sitting in the very back part of the LA Coliseum and could only watch the video screens. There was like a one second delay between Mick's mouth moving and the word coming out. Like I said, the worst of the three Stones shows I've seen. Best was 1981 at the Astrodome w/ZZ Top and the Fab T-Birds...second was December 2005 at the Toyota Center.

Right or left side?! We were back left bend of the stadium, about 2/3-3/4 of the ways up.

It was like watching a Japanese movie w/ AM sound.

Hopefully it was better than the Super Bowl debacle.

Left side, all the way up. A Japanese movie with AM sound is a good way to describe it. Tinny piss-poor sound. Crappy song selection (heavy on the "Steel Wheels" album which totally sucks). And....way too polished with the synth player sequencing everything. I hated it so much that I swore in the future I would never see a concert in anything bigger than a basketball arena...and haven't.

LOL! Well, at least it was 35 years between incidents. Actually, we were horrified at what happened to the cow. The Bug was so packed (2 of the guys were/are 6'4" and 6'5", with one of the girls a butterball... not the chick I was with!) that I was the only one who saw the actually impact, and told everyone not to look. The driver was still trying to get the VW to the side of the road, and everyone else was still yelling, "What the hell happened??"

That's a great site. One of my friends did an interview for the book that supposedly coming out about it. I wish they had more photos. It was cool how many folks involved at Woodstock were there. The Hog Farm, mentioned in the movie, had a "trip tent," that many people who took the brown acid, which was super powerful stuff, (it was there as well as at Woodstock) ended up at. Taking half a tab was like taking 2 tabs of purple double-dome, or one of the other types well known at the time, not that I had any experience with any of that, of course. :D

I still can't believe a deer did so much damage to our van. It hit us. A very strange experience after a great evening.
