Just got back from this and everyone is talking about it now. It is a must see. Amazing movie, I literally found myself in the middle of it wondering how on earth someone could create something this good. Go ****ing See This Movie. and Discuss...
I agree. This movie was so good that the lines between what was on the screen vs. reality started to blur. The acting was fantastic. The plot was very intricate, and had us having "Ohh!" moments during discussion after the movie. It's a bit long, but stay with it. You won't be disappointed. p.s. - moes, you are evil =)
Oh yeah, it was a very good movie and people need to check it out. Make sure you don't know anything going in. I had read the book before and I already knew, even though the movie is quite different from the book, the important secrets are the same. So if you are thinking about seeing this avoid all the spoiler buttons, that's why they are there. Spoiler What did I just say Spoiler Ok, whenever a movie is made that's based on a book, there are going to be comparisons. I'm not going to say they should have done some things a certain way because it happened in the book, but I think one thing in particular that I would have preferred is that you see Angier's trick (The Real Transported Man in the movie, In a Flash is the name in the book) performed the way it's supposed to happen before you see him in Colorado. I think seeing the trick and wondering how he does it and what is the price being paid makes the ultimate revelation much more shocking. I also think it would have been better if at the end, the fire could have illuminated all of the boxes so that you could see multiple Angier Prestiges in the boxes. Anyways, so the book and movie are different, but I think the movie is just as good in it's own right. You can read a good wikipedia synopsis of the books here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prestige
I saw this movie last night. It was a great movie.2nd best film of the year, just a little bit behind the Departed.
Saw it and liked it. Didn't blow me away or anything, even had part of it figured out, but it was very good - good story, well-acted.
Spoiler I saw it tonight, I figured the Professor's assistant was a twin very early in the movie but was he created by the machine. I guess from oski's post the machine was creating duplicates but I don't see why the movie ended like that was a secret because they told you that in colorado. its just you didn't know he was killing himself everytime. I guess that's why the old men were blind, just figured that out, duh
Spoiler That movie was wild. I suspected there to be a twin, because at one point I thought the assisant and bale's character looked similar. Then I looked closer and I changed my mind. It was great how it all came together at the end and it all made sense. Awesome movie.
Spoiler yes, I had the twin part figured out - and it had to be a twin, Tesla didn't make a machine for the Freddy character according to the story. I even had the killing himself part everytime figured out right after he started the last performances. I almost tricked myself into thinking the twin was another version of the Cutter character - that somehow he had gotten a hold of a Tesla machine way back in the day, but then I realized that was stupid. My main beef with the movie is that almost all of it is so highly focused on the fact that these ARE tricks, there are definitive 3 parts to every trick, to be th ebest you have to live the trick - as Christian Bale & family do - but then there is a machine that makes clones of someone?? What is that? It's almost like making a great movie about two individuals fighting in a war, only to find out at the end one of the guy's is really an alien. Guess it had to be there, though, for the whole movie to work.
I maybe the only one here, but I don't think it's that great a movie. I figured out the twists early in the movie and the rest was just long. It's basically a story of "oh, you got me, now I want to get you back". I actually think "Illusionist" is a better movie than this one.
I agree with your beef. I thought the same thing, its like the stupid alien you see at the end of some sci fi movies that just ruins everything.
I agree completely. I didn't figure out all of the secrets early, but for some reason when everything came around, it didn't leave me with that "OH!" forehead-slapping moment. I thought there were a few bits that were confusing, and a few things left unexplained. Overall, I definitely enjoyed "The Illusionist" more, but this movie was probably worth seeing too.
SPOILER ALERT...sorry do not know how to make the spoiler button just saw it, thought it was decent. one question: how did jackman's character get tipped off that that was the time that bale was going backstage? also can you tell me how to make the spoiler button.
