I don't know about in Texas, but I've seen a lot less "Support our troops" magnets on cars. A lot less. and at one point it was on every fifth car, now its maybe less than ever 30th. Could it be that people are becoming less patriotic and the liberal media is winning or do you think people are realizing what a slap in the face it is to the people dying for our government?
They can, and they are. My father, a liberal who later became a university professor and department chair, enlisted after Pearl, became a radar expert and instructor at age 21, teaching men far older than he was, in a lot of cases. Dad volunteered to be posted in a combat zone late in the war, because he grew tired of training people that were being sent there, while he stayed at a base in Corpus Christi. Thought he should put in his time. Dad served a short tour on the carrier Saratoga, was transferred to the Philippines, and ended up in a nasty fight while being ferried from the Philippines to Hawaii, via Guam. On the way to Guam with 4 other radar experts, who were close friends of his, in a B-25 light bomber without any bombs, someone spotted a large Japanese sub, that apparently couldn't submerge. The pilot, instead of radioing the sub's position to the Navy, like he should have, and keeping it in sight until they showed up, asked the 5 radar guys if they had experience with 50 cal. machine guns. It turned out that they had all been trained in their use, or claimed they had. (Dad actually had) The only other crew member was the co-pilot. Dad ended up using one of the waist guns. So the B-25 starts strafing the sub, coming so close that Dad said he could see the expressions on the Japanese sailors as his tracers impacted on them. The sub greatly out-gunned them, and the crew kept coming out to man the guns as fast as they were being shot. Dad compared it to kicking an anthill. One of the two engines was hit and caught on fire. Realizing that they were going down, they radioed their position, as best they could, got as far away from the sub as was possible, they hoped far enough not to be seen bailing out, and then they all bailed out into a Pacific with 8 foot-plus seas. One of Dad's friends, the first to hit the water, hit funny, and broke a leg, badly. A bone went through the skin. Dad said that the sharks started hitting the man as he watched, still floating down. I've told this story before, so I'll stop boring everyone. They were picked up by a PT boat as darkness fell, a miracle. Dad spent months in a hospital. He didn't tell me about any of it until about 6 months before he died. I grew up in the era of "What did your daddy do during the war??" I would reply, "He was a radar expert, and spent some time on a carrier, where he met Tyrone Power, the actor." That was all I knew. Damned right liberals can and are patriotic. Anyone who says different is a liar, in my opinion. I can't believe the ludicrous crap being tossed around these days to attempt to win elections. It's despicable. Liberals, conservatives, and moderates are all against this war, just as a mixture are for it. Love of country has nothing to do with their positions, and everything. Keep D&D Civil.
Why do the majority of the members of the armed forces vote republican? Congrats, one member of the military opposes Bush. But according to the polls he's in the minority. Why can't we just take their oil, bomb them into the stone age, and come home?
I was in the US Navy from 2001 - 2005. In my experience, most people in the military oppose Bush, at least the enlisted ones. But, we get so much brainwashing in the military that most people feel pressured to vote republican. The superiors made fun of democrats, calling them soft, etc. and pressured us to support the president no matter what he did. There is a culture in the military that equates democrats with weakness... and they try to ingrain it into us.
I just want a few of the ChickenHawks to come into this thread and answer me a few questions. 1. Is Pats Brother, a terrorist supporter? 2. Is he helping the terrorists cause through propoganda? 3. Is he showing a lack of support for the Troops? 4. Does he hate America? 5. Should he keep his opinion to himself.
1. Don't think so... 2. He might be. How would they use it if they see it? 3. Not unless distracting and demoralizing with regards to the mission counts. 4. No. 5. No. But he should measure the unanticipated impact of his efforts.
Considering the site, along with the political juncture of this message, I doubt it is real. That said, I sent it to snopes.com If you libs believe this is a "true" article, send it there, as well. The more Q's they have, the more they tend to investigate. Or, would you just like to sit on woo wiberal bwog and cwy "foul?" I challenged you... Prove it.
This is a good point -- before folks go too apesh!t over this letter there should be some verification. Have any major news outlets picked it up yet? I believe that it is true but I would like some confirmation as well because it could be a major 'gotcha' if it turns out to be a hoax.
Well, as usual you are completely and totally wrong. If you were a little smarter you'd figure out that there are other easier ways of confirming this story, than asking snopes.com to do it for you. It took me literally 30 seconds.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/1020tillman-ON-CP.html As Gifford1967 said, it took about 30 seconds to find this.
Let's just say that I'm amazed that you're amazed: - I said he wasn't a terrorist sympathizer - I said he doesn't hate America _ I said his letter could be used for propoganda purposes _ I said his letter could be demoralizing for our troops - I said he needs be wary of unintended consequences That is all fair, cautious and reasonable. Why are you amazed?
how could his letter be used for propoganda purposes? The only propoganda would be to show how freedom works and is supposed to work in this nation.
That is so naively ideal. I know that is possible, but do you really think that is how the jihadist will CHOOSE to use the material?
