I am rooting for the Tigers. But the Cards will win because on some level the Tigers have to feel like they already exceeded their goal for the season. That and everytime the "general consensus" is that a World Series team has NO CHANCE they always win. See also Arizona/Yankees series or Oakland/Cincinatti series.

100+ mph? The Cards don't stand a chance and neither would have the Mets. Tigers in 5.

Kenny Rogers should be the Tigers game 1, 4, and 7 starters... that's 3 automatic wins right there (providing their offense does something).

The Cards cannot hit left-handed pitching.

I don't remember people saying Arizona had "no chance". They still thought the Yankees would win... but you could not ignore Schilling/Randy Johnson pitching in 5 out of the 7 possible games.

    Oakland vs. Cincy
    Oakland vs. Dodgers
Those series were where the teams playing the A's had no chance... and so far, that's one of the biggest blips on TLR's career (inability to win with teams that were supposed to win). The Cards have a shot... but they also have to get more consistent offense if they want to hang with the AL.

Three of their wins in the Mets series were against lefties. They beat up pretty good on Wagner, Perez (game 2?), and Glavine (game 5). Nothing in this postseason seems automatic. The Yankees, Twins, and Padres were all favored in their first series, and many people thought the Dodgers could beat the Mets. Mets were easily favored over the Cards. This has just been a really odd postseason thus far.

The Tigers are the favorites, but you play the games because sometimes teams like the 88 Dodgers win.

Then again, most people predicted the Astros to lose to the red hot CWI as well as the Cards to the red hot Bosox.

I don't think it will be close. The Tigers have better starters and a better bullpen. In fact they have baseball's best ERA in the regular season and playoffs despite pitching against a DH!!! Furthermore they are rested. Even if the Cards offense was better than the Tigers--which it isn't, it is hard to fathom the stronger and more rested staff losing out. It would take a Herculian effort by the Cards pitchers and a collapse of the Tigers hitters to make this series close. They would need a huge performance from another starter (looks like Carp and Suppan will only start 3 games unless the put both on 3 days rest), someone like Marquis. Then again Suppan and Weaver have pitched suprisingly well. So anything is possible, but not likely.

Nothing against the Cards, but considering how they backed in the playoffs and how close the Stros came to being right where they are (and should be):

If the Cards win it all, I'm going to PUKE. Uggggghhhhhhhhhh

I don't like any of them.

I hope they both go on an endless tie on game 7 and call a truce.. no winner for this year's world series.

As much as many of us hate the Cards (I don't, but I know others do), did anyone catch that article in USA Today predicting the Tigers would win in 3 games? The only reason I would pull for a team like the Cards is the disrespect practically everyone in the media is showing them. I didn't like it last year and the same goes for this year. Just to stick it to the holier-than-thou media is the only reason I would hope for the Cards to win.

This was the quote from USA Today:

"Prediction The Detroit Tigers' biggest obstacle to a championship will be keeping a straight face. The Tigers in three. (OK, make it four.)"
