I was just reading the rumors section for NBA courtside and it said that Shawn Kemp has been working relentlessy this summer with John Lucas along with ex-player oliver miller... he has lost 45lbs and they say hes starting to look like the player he was in Seattle dunking like crazy. They say he has fixed his mind and that's the main reason behind his turnaround. He has gotten past his drug problem and depression as well.
if kemp does get back into shape and is the player he once was Portland cant give him the minutes he needs, you have Wallace,D Davis,Kemp,Z.Randolph, Arvydads (if he resigns) all sharing the 4-5 spot he wont getmore than 20 mpg espically at the beggining of the year. Also he will never average more than 10 ppg again with all of Portland's scoring and him getting older.
I would be surprised if he got anywhere close to 20 minutes a game, despite an improved attitude and lost weight. He got 16 minutes last year and I would bet that will be close to the highmark for him for the rest of his career.
I have a friend who plays overseas, who's been going to play at a gym off of Ella and 610, close to Lutheran North I believe. He said Shawn Kemp must've been really damn fat if he or anyone else is claiming he's lost 40 lbs. The man is a fat ass, with a huge head, according to my friend. He doesn't have too many kind words for Cat either, despite being a huge Rockets fan. Apparantly, he's a pretty big wuss.
If Kemp seriously got into shape and could get 85% of the talent he had in 95 back he would sure as hell be starting over Wallace. Rasheed would either be playing the 3 or get traded for maybe Payton although they could probably land a Kidd or Mutombo with a Wallace package. Wallace is not worth all the fuss. Kemp is still fairly young, should be in his prime. It would be an excellent situation for the Blazers if Kemp kicked his habits, lost weight, and regained his ability. I wish him luck and hope he can return, we can always use more fantasy basketball superstars.
Yeah, I posted about this a while ago -- earlier in the summer, my brother saw Shawn Kemp working out over at Strake Jesuit -- he said that Kemp was really strong, and he was working REALLY hard. I also heard on Rome that John Lucas was working with him in Houston, and Lucas says that Kemp is going to be like a new player. IMO, if Shawn Kemp had been able to stay at his peak condition, and continue to play well, he'd have been up there as one of the greatest all-time PFs. He was just unstoppable.
You are right about that Vengence. The thing that I liked about the young but maturing Kemp in '96 when the Sonics made it to the finals was his tremendous consistency and ability to raise his level of play when the team needed him.He truly is the biggest waste of real superstar talent in the NBA.
Kemp losing 45 pounds would put him right about 330 or 340. I really hope he hasn't lost that much weight. The guy is so fun to make fun of. You try to sympathize, but when you have that much flat-out talent and decide to throw it away on powder, powdered donuts, and 37 illegitimate kids you just gotta crack on the guy. So please Shawn for my sake, keep hitting the Golden Coral.
Hey now... not nice to make fun of the guy. It's a disease, not a lifestyle choice. Actualy that would be a pretty reasonable explanation for losing 45 lbs. A couple of 8-balls a day and I guarantee you'll loose 50-100 lbs in no time. Look around... you'll never see a fat crack head.
No offence, nothing personal here or anything. But being a Bulls fan, shouldn't u lay low on the dissing other NBA players and teams? Just alittle suggestion
