CNN is clearly against US interests.. the destruction of their satellites can be used as an example for GW's new space policy..

I don’t particularly agree with anything basso and Big Texxx say, but I have a real sense that they are real people. They have their own particular individual personalities and quirks. Trader_Jorge on the other hand always comes across as something of a parody; sort of an extreme ‘hook, line, and sinker’ party guy. Almost as if he is a real life version of the people that a Republican Spin Doctor only play on TV.

I’ve met some people whom I would consider more ‘conservative’ though after awhile shifts in that direction become somewhat meaningless in those terms (the other day at a gun show someone told me that McCarthy was misunderstood and was totally right and proceeded to go on about the Communist conspiracy  ) but never anybody that manages to quite sound quite so unintentionally silly. I’m not up on “As the BBS Turns” but has anybody actually met him? If so is he really the person that he portrays on the BBS or is he just playing a part?

I don't mean to be rude, but I have a very hard time believing that you are real Trader_Jorge.

I Think Trader Joe believes our news channels should only run pro-military, nationalistic propaganda - ya know - have the american flag blowing and reports of how iraqis are happier and show soldiers having fun with kids.

Then we can be more like countries such as Iran and China.

    Wikipedia:
[rquoter] The Tết Offensive is frequently seen as an example of the value of propaganda, media influence and popular opinion in the pursuit of military objectives.
    Contents
    [/rquoter]

    CNN:
[rquoter]The Islamist Army says it wants talks with the United States and some Islamist Internet postings call for a P.R. campaign aimed at influencing the American public. The video is disturbing to watch but CNN believes the story, shocking as it is, needs to be told.
    [/rquoter]

the similarities are striking. whether CNN and the Islamists are on the same side, i don't see how one can deny they're working towards the same goal- the demoralization of the american public and the pullout of american troops.

just like i edited thomas friedman's article in the times, unfortunately it's subscribers only:

[rquoter]Although the Vietcong and Hanoi were badly mauled during Tet, they delivered, through the media, such a psychological blow to U.S. hopes of "winning" in Vietnam that Tet is widely credited with eroding support for President Johnson and driving him to withdraw as a candidate for re-election.[/rquoter]

Tet then, was a military victory for the U.S. that turned into a propaganda victory for the VC and NVA because American "journalists" presented a false picture of what had happened.

That is not what the quote says. It says that it was a victory for the Americans, and that it eroded support for the war in the American public. It doesn't say anywhere that anybody presented a false picture.

What happened is the American public was never quite accepted the reasons that we were in Vietnam. When they felt that the cost was low, even though the reward wasn't viewed as valuable the public was fine to continue.

Once the cost became high, the public wasn't happy continuing on without any understood reward. If the benefits of the war were actually real, and the president or the military were able to explain what it was to the American public then we would have been happy to continue. Much larger losses were reported in the press during WWII but since the reason for fighting was universally accepted we continued.

Essentially the war was lost because nobody could show the public any reason why we were fighting. It became important to have a reason once a rational projection of the real cost in American lives was evaluated based on new data. It was the public doing it's job in a democracy.

To me your argument is sort of like an incompetent coach with a poor game plan in football blaming a blowout loss on the weather or the refs. It's weak.

Are you saying that journalists are presenting a "false picture" of what is happening in Iraq?

Well I was wondering where the "Conquistador" was. I was staring to miss you....ok you can laugh now. :p
What I think we are witnessing here with the R.O.T.C. is the beginning of Karl Rove's plan to inundate every media market no matter how small with the slings and arrows of outrageous bu**sh** for the last three weeks leading up to the election. And with 100 million dollars at his disposal, it seems he can even afford TJ's price.
So tell me conquistador how much do you charge for coming back out semi-retirement to start your name calling and fear mongering? And after November 7, will you leave us once again or will you stay and gloat if the republicans win or scream bloody murder and call the liberals and Democrats terrorists and traitors if they win.(Like that has stopped you before)

Well I'm glad you started a thread for at least the joy of knowing you haven't met your maker and are still doing what you were put here to do. Whatever that might be. :)
