Just want to share my thoughts after reading boxscores and watching highlights put up by R2K (thank you again)

Kelenna Azubuike: I think he is a decent 12th man for NBA, but he is not really what we were looking for after we got bonzi and snyder. The team is stacked up with 2s and 3s like him, more athletic, shoots better and more versatile. Goodbye buike and good luck

Ryan Bowen: Rybo fans out there: I really appreciate the support that you give Rybo by buying season tickets to watch him play, holding signs such as "I love you Rybo!" or "F-E-E-D-R-Y-B-O". However its sad to say we have to cut Rybo in order to save up a roster spot for other people. Since we've got Shane which can do much better on everything , steals, hustle, 3s, running up and down. I always reckon having one Rybo type of player in one team is enough. He got injured at a bad time when he really need to step up and prove himself. Farewell Rybo hope you win a Championship ring before we do!

Matt Haryasz: I was pretty suprised when Van Gundy actually gave him a chance to tryout. He was actually one of the big suprises of this pre-season ( I mean in relative to my expectations) when he grabbed 5 rebounds against Dallas. His little jump shot reminds me of Shaq doing a cross-over, just as rare. So I think he is one of the leading candidates to me cut as well (Probably less chances than buike because we need big men)

Casey Jacobsen: What makes you think that a Standford Graduate, selected in the 1st round of NBA draft, 3rd year vet, has a career 3pt% of 37%, can play 2 and 3, would get cut by every team and every year? Anyone? (still i think he will get cut)

Scott Pagett: 6-9, 240 lbs, 38% 3pt. Has good attitude. Knows VGD plays system from heart, VGD's pet. 7 yr pro. I have to admit I really like Pagett's play from day 1 he was in a rockets uniform. The only think I dont like is he has bad D, this is same as why I would consider before giving CJ a contract.

    Other candidates: Deke (possible)

    Just some random thoughts, comments?

I think Spooky (Azubuike) and Jacobsen get cut. It's a numbers game at their positions.

Padgett is redundant with Novak around.

Haryasz may stick, just because he's big. Outside of Yao and Dikembe, there's not much size.

I know it's a bit late, but should this be a multiple choice poll?

I think Azubuike, Bowen, and Jacobsen are the most likely to go right now. Haryasz might stick just in case Dikembe gets hurt. We're really that thin up front :(

I disagree. At this point Juwan Howard as a backup center is still more useful than Haryasz. The chances of that kid making this team are about 1 in 500 -- he'll have fun dominating the NBDL this season. Also I don't think JVG can have enough jumpshooting big men (especially in 2nd-unit situations with Bonzi in the low post), and Padgett has two other things going for him -- he has been fairly impressive on the boards over the preseason, and he knows JVG's system far better than any of the newcomers. Expect Padgett to stay.

The one person who is fairly redundant at this point is Casey Jacobsen. Doesn't bring anything to the table that Novak doesn't, and has been remarkably unimpressive in every other aspect of the game. Kelenna is also somewhat redundant -- pretty much a smaller, much less effective version of Kirk Snyder. He's a good player, and I'm sure someone else around the league will snatch him up sooner or later. Lucas is lucky he has a guaranteed contract -- otherwise, the performances of Head and Spanoulis might have sent him right back to the NBDL. Nonetheless he is still more useful to the team than any of these other guys.

    Addendum -- three cuts, right?

Bowen is definitely gone. Most likely that means that Jacobsen takes up his spot at the end of the bench.

we're no that thin up front. i think as the preseason shows, we play better ball with a small lineup. We also wee that both chuck hayes and juwan howard is capable of playing decent center minutes. I say cut haryass, jacobsen, azubuike, and bowen.

personally, I would like RyBo be cut.
But now, Azubuike is that most-likely guy, considering the addition of bonzi and kirk.

I think we should just let Sura retire if he still can't play when the season starts.

The only person on this list the Rockets should consider keeping is Scott Padgett. He is the only player that has proven his worth. He can spread the floor.

i think they should cut sura (it seems he'll never come back), bowen (useless), padgett and jacobsen (what they bring is only shooting, and at that novak is better than them i think). azubuike brings athleticism and size at the G spot, and haryasz can be a valuable backup C (mutombo is too old imo, if yao goes down again we cant have as our only option at C a 40y old guy ...)

Bowen and Casey are gone I think. 1 more cut amidst Haraysz, Azuibuike, Sura. Probably one of the former 2 since they're harder to spell

Keep the big men, we need size and depth at the 4 & 5 spot much more than we do at 1,2, and 3.

As of last night's game against the Bucks, the 4 guys who should be gone are:

    Sura

    Azubuike

    Jacobsen

    Bowen

Everyone else, including Haryasz and Padgett, make the 15-man team.

More interesting to contemplate is who will be the three inactives most of the time?

After V-Span's rapid growth and acclimatization, it looks more and more like Lucas is going to be the odd man out on game days.

That leaves two more. Probably count Haryasz among the inactives as well.

That's two, so who's the third?

The prime candidates for this last regularly-inactive spot would have to be Padgett, Howard, or possibly even Deke on occasion.

One thing I have a question about: Sura. A lot of people seem to believe that the Rox are going to keep Sura on the roster, possibly so they can get some kind of an injury exception at some point. My question is, have we heard anything from the Rox that this might actually be the case? And if so, what would the benefit be? I know we tried, and almost got, Marc Jackson with a similar injury exception at one time, but we actually NEEDED someone like MJ at that time. It does not appear that the Rox actually have any need to take any special steps to keep some kind of an exception in order to add any more players than they already have. Heck, some of these cuts and inactive decisions are going to be a bit difficult as it is.

Can someone tell me if it's definitely true that Sura is going to be kept around for this purpose, and what the actual point and benefit of such a move would be?

i think we keep jacobson and padgett.

    yao-hayes-deke
shane-novak-jho (he'll lose his minutes at some point this season)
tmac-bonzi (will get minutes at the 2/3) - padgett
    snyder-head-jacobson
    rafer-billy-lucas
