Nets released Dud-man. He'd be a decent back-up vet C...kind that does all the little things. OK, so he can't shoot, is stiff, and 36 years old, but at least he's not convicted drug dealer. He's a foot problems also, so he and Rice can compare tootsies.

Nets decide not to keep veteran center Dudley
    Aug. 15, 2001
    SportsLine.com wire reports

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Veteran center Chris Dudley, who spent 3 1/2 seasons with the New Jersey Nets in the early 1990s, will not be partaking in a second stint with the team.

The Nets on Wednesday requested waivers on the 36-year-old Dudley, who rejoined the team in the July 18 trade for Jason Kidd.

Dudley spent last season with the Phoenix Suns, averaging 1.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game. He owns career averages of 4.1 points and 6.4 rebounds over a 14-year NBA career.

Originally selected in the fourth round (75th overall) of the 1987 draft by Cleveland out of Yale, Dudley also has played for the Cavaliers (1987-89), Nets (1990-93), Portland Trail Blazers (1993-97) and New York Knicks (1997-2000).

He ranks eighth on New Jersey's all-time rebounding list (1,983) and is sixth in blocks (466).

Dudley tallied a career-best 7.1 points per game while splitting the 1989-90 campaign between Cleveland and New Jersey, He grabbed 9.3 boards per contest in his second season with the Trail Blazers.

Renowned for being one of the worst free-throw shooters in NBA history, Dudley has connected on just 46 percent (683-of-1,493) of his attempts from the line.

Dudley has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, including a fractured right foot in 1997-98 (32 games), a fractured left ankle in 1993-94 (76), a stress fracture in his right foot in 1992-93 (11) and a severely bruised right thigh in 1990-91 (21 games).

Is Cato really considered that bad that we'd bring Dudley in to back him up?

I think ppl as good as Jahidi White and Jelani Mccoy can even be backups beihnd Cato.

    C'mon, Dudley???

    What has it come to???

How many FT's per game would he shoot for us? 1?

Also, how many times will he get the ball?

Assuming we retain part of the isolation offense we had last year, Dudley would rarely get the ball...

Suddenly it has sunk in with me that our #1 center is no longer Dream, but now Cato  . Now I am hearing talk about us possibly acquiring Chris Dudley? *vomiting all over the place*

I think you hit the right point...he wouldn't get free throws, he wouldn't get the ball therefore why do we want him? His stats suck and so does he.

    No strengths:
back to the basket - NOT!
    rebounding - NOT!
    hustle - NOT!
    hook shot - NOT!
    blocking - NOT!

    LOL, rebounding, he can do.

He averaged 9.7 rebounds one season, with 7.1 points. But he was at his PRIME, that should be the message everyone should get. LOL!

Enough Dudley talk, I'm getting ill.

Amen, Sane. On with Rudy -ball!!! Let's start the season. No center, no problem!! OK...Cato. But, anyway...If other teams can start centers that are really PF's, then I think we'll do GREAT! Just, please...start preseason already...before my head explodes!!

You guys are glossing over Dudley's most important stat-

most inbound baseball passes from the baseline to the back of Shaq's head from 40 feet in a career.:D

It was an amazing thing to have seen, especially when you consider his free throw inability.

for those who mock the possibility, consider these recent (past 3 seasons) signings:

Stanley Roberts - fat, bad shoulder, weak for his size
Thomas Hamilton- fat, bad attiitude, weak-minded

Dudley will go to the glass, has long arms which are good for the zone, won't need looks, good for six fouls on Shaq, will be a professional- good veteran influence. As long as he can find the open man he won't have to spend too much time at the line.

I'll take his brand of veteran leadership over a fat malcontent like Rice.

Rudy and CD should take a hard look.

who gives a crap what "brand of veteran leadership" he brings?! can he play or not?!

jeez, some people! would you rather have a good team or the freakin boy scouts?!

besides, it's not like rice is a malcontent ON the court. sheesh, dudley's free throws are much more offensive than glen could EVER be!...

No one would rather have Dudley's leadership over Rice's.
