And also with 2 point range, free throw range, some bball IQ, and maybe a little passing too. Other than that, they are identical!
I dont know if this is a Novak praise thread or a Bill Worrell bash thread, so I will contribute to both. Novak - He has one of the nicest strokes from behind the Arc I have seen in a while. Dare I say I think he will be in the league longer than JJ Reddick? Yes,I do. There, I said it. Worrell - I haven't really been a fan of his for quite some time. I didnt mind him with Calvin, but when they put him and Van Chancellor together, I started muting the TV and listening to the radio broadcast. Clyde proves my theory of just because you were a great player, doesnt mean you will be a good Analyst/Commentator. Bill is a fan, and I cant criticize him for that. So I think the whole Novak thing is just an example of him being really excited about this team, like most of us. But, if I have to hear him say "Tracy, with a Facey!" one more time, I may puke. Just My Opinion.
Bill needs Calvin back bad. His broken record routine gets boring when his sidekicks don't contribute anything but pedestrian feedback. Brockstapper, Unless Worrell starts doing Senegal rec ball broadcasts, he's not going to be commenting on Badiane's play.
Geez... thank God we don't have Gay on this team now.. along with Head.. That would just be wayyy too much manly love.
Hopefully Padgett never sees the floor this year, so we don't have to keep hearing him mispronouce it as 'Pageant'.. And I SWEAR, if someone doesn't grab Bull by the freaking THROAT and tell him it's pronounced 'NOVITSKI' and *NOT* freakin 'NO-WITSKI', I am going to cancel my dues for the Air Bull Fan Club!!!!! Geez it's embarrassing for these guys to be so blatantly unprofessional that they can't even be bothered to learn how to properly say the players' names!! Argh!!
there's no substitute for calvin murphy & bill worrell together ... why can't the rockets just understand that??
If you don't want commentators who are fans, I'd offer the CCTV-5 commentating as a possibility. The commentators are very even handed and calm, they don't act homerish (except a bit on Yao, but even that is quite muted). They don't extoll the virtues of the players all the time like some American commentators do, and even are quite negative at times. For example, I remember many times when Yao misses shots, they say, "Wow, Yao definitely should have made that shot." Bad passes will result in comments like, "What was he thinking, that pass was totally off the mark." They even once had a segment during a halftime called "Yao's Turnovers" where they took video footage of a bunch of Yao's turnovers and dissected them. Their basketball knowledge is actually pretty good as well, I'd say on par with the American announcers (maybe not the former players, but then again the American commentators who aren't former players many times don't have great bball knowledge either.) I've heard their broadcast called boring, and to some it might be boring. But from your comments maybe you appreciate that.
bill and drexler - just merely tolerable bill and bull- they get the mute button bill and calvin- sugar and spice which makes everything nice. they were the best combination.
I wouldn't say it is the homerism that is boring, I like that to a certain extent. I want them to get excited when Tracy hits a buzzer beater. Or when there is a a sick block or something. Just keep it under control. Don't be TOO much of a fan (i.e. Every one of their foul calls are wrong and every one of our misses should have been a foul).
In my biased personal opinion, most PRC's sports commentators are a boring bunch I can rarely enjoy. To begin with, the majority of them don't have good voices that are considered prerequisites in broadcasting business. I mean even if they are not gifted with naturally captivating voices they should at least try not to be monotonic. Most of the times they would comment on the obvious, with boring cliches such as "good ball" or "fantastic" (Chinese viewers will know what I mean), which makes you think they are treating their audiences like imbeciles. In many other occasions, one of those expert guest commentator would lecture his viewers with overly detailed analyses as if he were giving them a seminar. Yet, there would also be long stretches of silence from the men at control of the mikes, leaving you wonder if they are taking untimely and extented bathroom breaks. IMO an ideal commentator needs to be an enthusiastic fan of the game first, an expert closely second, and depending on the nature of the sports he/she is working on, a judgmental/opinionated partisan or a non-partial referee last. In addition, being quick witted and having a sense of humor and interesting personality are always nice. Given the usually intense competitions vying for the job, I'd say the latter are becoming a must. Sorry to say, most PRC's sports commentators fail to appeal to me. By and large, they pale in comparison to American sportscasters.
I havent heard anyone complain over him "gushing" over T-mac..or Tim Duncan, or even when he did over Karla Malone.....do you have the problem because Novak is white?
I think it should be clyde and cooper, -calvin in the studio, -worrell and bullard playing one on one at halftime - mike newlin singing the star spangled banner on a mike held by lisa maloskys big man hands -after game interview.......Van Chancellor. OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH LIFE!
