Under what? I predict Novak will hit under 1000 3 pointers this season.

    You taking the over?

No, I don't think VSpan should be the starting PG. But, let me be clear. I don't like Alston's game and I watched him closely last season. I would have never traded Mike James for this guy. What a boneheaded move! Nevertheless I would like "someone" to emerge or be brought in to replace him. A PG that can't play tough defense and can't shoot is a liability. Yes, he distributes fairly well and he has decent handles. But, he is small, fragile, and gets flamed by many of the league's PG's. I like what I am seeing in VSpan but he has alot to prove and he will need time to develop.

Everyone should realize that JVG was just screwing around with that starting lineup tonight. He ain't gonna give nothing away until they are playing for real. This game was all about getting the rooks time and experience. I ain't worried even the least bit about the starters.

In fact, I was actually hoping we would lose.....to make Dallas relax a little and put a bee up our behinds. THESE GAMES MEAN NUTHIN! It's all about getting our rooks some floor time and finding out what guys are capable of. All the chemistry stuff is going on behind the scenes and will break out when the season starts. You think McGrady gonna miss freebies like that come regular season? Not on your life. He was just chuck'n.

Yeah, last season rafer was dissapointing as a defender, playmaker, and shooter. Yeah, you could argue about playmaker (lack of support) but you can't argue that he can't defend and he can't shoot.

However, this season, if things go bad, JVG, hopefully will be smart enough to use Head or Vspan over Rafer, IF rafer doesn't play well again. I really like Head as a pg this preseason so at least rafer will have competition at the PG spot unlike last year

Ok. So oyu would NEVER trade Mike James for Alston? Even when Mike James made it clear that he was going for the money after his contract runs out? You would rather get NOTHING for him?

Here are some post game quotes that I found on the Mav's web site.

    http://www.nba.com/mavericks/matchup/postgame_quotes_101706_rockets.html
Postgame Quotes Oct. 17, 2006 vs. Rockets

    Mavericks Head Coach Avery Johnson
“There are only 30 of us, and I am one of 30. I am coaching a team that I really love and care about. Dallas has been very good to me and to my family and me. Mark has kept his word and we just want to continue to proceed with our partnership, which we are excited about. I am doing something that I would do for free; that is a great position to be in. obviously, I get paid, but if there were no money involved and I had an opportunity to coach the Mavericks, I would love to do it. This is a rare opportunity and I am humbled to be in it. Especially being a recent retiree from the NBA.”

    Mavericks forward Josh Howard

You seem to be really comfortable out on the court right now
“I’m just out there doing my job, working on my game and trying to help the team out anyway possible.”

You seem to be playing at a high level of confidence right now
“I’m just kind of going back to my senior year of college right now. I had a lot a stake after the season was over with the draft so I’m just taking it like that again. I want us as a team to get back to the same position that we were at last year. I’ve got to come out and just play my game and have confidence in my teammates.”

What are you teaching the younger players as far as pros and cons go?
“First is to be prepared on what to expect from coach (Johnson) and let them know ahead of time what’s expected of them. They are going to get yelled at so they need to be prepared. Other than that I try to tell them to just play their game don’t try to change your game. Find your shot when it’s there. Don’t try to jack up everything, don’t try to force the issue because you’re going to have your chances, you just have to be ready.”

    Houston Coach Jeff Van Gundy

On the Mavs offense against Houston’s zone…
“I thought they looked great against the zone. I don’t know if it was our defense or their good offense, but Josh Howard might want to see that a little bit more.”

Poor shooting of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady…
“I think our free throw shooting has been awful from day one this year. We haven’t been over 70 percent in any scrimmage or any game. We’re beating ourselves with turnovers, 26, 23 and now 20. so clearly right now we’re not going to be any good if you miss, I think we missed 14 free throws and had 20 turnovers, that’s going to render you useless. I think McGrady is ready for the season to start. I think the zone hurt our energy to start the game. Offensively I thought we played very slow trying to adjust to Yao.”

    Houston Rockets Forward Shane Battier

On strengths of this year’s team…
“I think our strengths are the same as last year with Tracy and Yao, two great building blocks. Now it’s up to the rest of us to play off of that and make them better players.”

Nice comeback by the Rockets. I'm starting to see VSpan getting adjusted to the game unlike his first 2 . Lots of misses for both teams not counting the terrible FT shooting by the Rockets. I hope they would work on that.

Battier should be a coach. When talking to media, mouth moves, vocal cords move, nothing said.

I forget sarcastic tone is hard to convey in type written form. I was surely playing around. I posted previously how my mind is not even on past guys including Sura. And goodness Rybo being ranked ahead of even one NBA level player is a huge credit to him.

very impressed with V-Span, it doesn't matter to me if did what he did against HS kids. He showed great quickness on defense, good hands on defense, and court vision. He made some great passes, and made it look easy. Preseason is only preseason, but wow, there is a lot to look forward to.
