Crazy thing is that A Rod and Soriano will end up costing the same amount of money for the next 3 or 4 years....I think I'd rather have A Rod if we are going to spend the money.

Hate him or not, but Soriano would be ideal behind berkman who gets on base alot. Also i would try to trade for C. Zambrano or Willis. They also need some guys who dont strike out as much. Some contact hitter would be nice. Soriano would be very, very nice. He also steal bases which would be good. Maybe they could get A-Rod and bat him 3rd or 4th. The Rangers are paying like 70m of his contract right now. I would give up ensburg and lidge for A-Rod.

Do you actually believe the Yankees would accept a trade for Ensberg and Lidge for A-Rod? Doubtful.

No thanks. Oswalt should be considered untradeable, and certainly not for what the Yankees could offer.

Youre damn right. You are talking about one of the top 2 starters in all of baseball. If you asked all of the GMs in baseball who they would top their rotation with, they would probably telll you Johan Santana and Roy Oswalt in that order. The best right hander there is, is Roy O. If ARod gets traded, I think it will be to the Angels, who have young studs they can trade.

I love A-Rod, my favorate player; but no chance in hell Oswalt ever leaves Houston. The Astros pitching would go to hell, along with the entire franchise; fans would never forgive. If A-Rod comes to town, which I would love, can't happen with Oswalt in the sentence.

Media has had A-Rod traded to Chisox.
Media has had A-Rod traded to Angels.
Media has had A-Rod traded to Cubbies.

A-Rod will likely determine which team or teams he will waive his no-trade for, and I suspect the 'stros are not/will not be on his list.

Oh, hell no. Oswalt never leaves. He is ours and Drayton better kiss his rump to keep him here too. He's my fave pitcher of all time and to be a career Astro would be so awesome.

Drayton already "kissed his rump" to the tune of 5 years and $73,000,000. I suspect that if Oswalt continues to pitch well and is healthy that McLane will do what he has proven to do in the past with the Astros' "lifers" and pay him to finish his career here.

Justice's blog today mentions that Carlos Lee signing with Houston is basically a "lock" according to his 'source.'

He also mentions that same 'source' is the one that said the Cubs would hire Joe Girardi, and the Texans would draft Reggie Bush... so take it for what its worth.

I could post a link... but you all know where to find that worthless drivel... and I'm lazy.

C-Lee is a lock to sign here. Unless and until the really big payers offer really big bucks. Just know that Lee will be overpaid by some team. Good, yes. Good timing for his FA? Good for him.

And then, that will be followed by the predictable: "Drayton is cheap... the Astros only sign hometown players... to win, you have to spend... Tim is fat... "

The whole Carlos Lee / Soriano saga will be interesting if/when it plays out. Assuming we are interested in at least one, Soriano would seem to be the golden goose. I just hope we dont strike out with Soriano while Lee gets wooed elsewhere.

I don't see that happening... I don't think they'd be so in love with one guy, that they'd completely ignore the other... neither of them have the weight that Beltran had with this team.

Soriano, given his age and the year he just had, is going to make A LOT of money. A LOT. Give him credit for having the 40-40-40 year during his FA drive... will give a lot of teams a chance to overlook his strikeouts and his questionable defense (both at 2b and in the OF).

The Nats still have a shot at him (esp. if that last report about him rejecting their offer is indeed not true)... but I could easily see the Cubs, Yankees or Red Sox making him one of the highest paid players in the game.

Lee seems more plausible... given the constant chatter we've already heard about mutual interest, as well as the fact that he shouldn't be getting a deal that makes him one of the highest paid guys in the game. If somebody does get desperate enough to offer it, however, I would be fine with the Astros passing... divert that money to more pitching (I do like Wolf + Woody Williams, along with Pettite), try to get another veteran catcher (Greg Zaun again?), and work on promoting Pence and getting Patton more prepared than Hirsh/Buchholz were.

He's 30...and 6 months older than Carlos Lee.

Neither deserves more than about $12M/yr. Both have pluses & minuses, but their overall production is pretty similar. Either would look good batting cleanup for the Stros, though.

His D is better than his overall attitude IMO. I would happily welcome him to MMP but, let's face it, this guy is a MeFirst MeFirst MeFirst kinda guy.

And don't leave Angels and/or Orioles out of the salary explosion scenario either.
