Sorry, I would have liked to post this in the Open practice thread, but all those stupid pics kept jamming up everything and I couldn't even get the post window to open. I wish if you don't know how to post them things so that they size right (I have no idea how to do it) that you wouldn't post them. It makes it too hard to read the thread, having to scroll clear out to South Carolina to read the lines. Anyways, I was wanting someone that went to tell more about the backcourt matchups for this practice. Obviously, I would think Rafer was running the point with the first unit. Who was playing against him, VSpan or JLIII? Also, I read where VSpan was matched up against Bonzi, so does that mean he was running some at the 2 guard with either Head, or JLIII at the 1? And where did Head play? Somebody said he came in for Bonzi, which tells me he apparently got some minutes at the 2. Who was he in with? Which unit did Snyder play with and who was his backcourt mate? I'm trying to get a feel for how Van Gundy is looking at VSpan and Head especially. Is he allowing them to work at the point (hope so)? And what about Head's ballhandling? Was he bringing the ball up any? Who handled the ball and initiated the offense besides Rafer, especially on the 2nd unit?
honestly your best off just waiting till tomorrow and seeing it over a longer period of time than a 20 minute scrimmage. i don't think there was anything revealing but from what i remember: alston and wells in the backcourt for the starters jl3 and v-span for the other team. billy guarded bonzi but he also seemed to try and guard everyone out there, possibly because he didn't know where he was going. jl3 and alston where definitely guarding each other almost the entire time. head and snyder came in for both bonzi and t-mac at the same time. 2 and 3 are basically interchangeable but i guess head at two and snyder at the three. alston continued to run point. i don't think rafer came out so it seems head was strictly at the two. billy came out for a little bit but came back in later and i think ran the point. i can't remember if jl3 ever sat out but i definitely remember vspan running the show for stretches. at that time azbuike was either his backcourt mate(if jl3 was sitting) or he was playing the three.
Vspan has no clue what he's doing on court. He's a great hustle guy, but He hasnt adopt his game from Euroleague to NBA. He's not used to all the new teammates. When he drives into the lane, and jumped up to pass the ball, he usually check the spots where his old teammates are. That's where the turnovers are from.
Just give him some time. Its his first time playing in the NBA. Come mid-season he will be ready to go!
