I know this sounds dumb but every few years I try to pick up some of the star rookies cards of basketball, football, baseball, etc so that one day if and when I have a son I can open up this box and he will be amazed at the cards his old man got for him. I know, it sounds cheesy.

Anyhow, I know certain cards are "the cards to get in sports such as the

    1994 SP A-Rod #15
    1989 UD Griffey Jr. Rookie

What are "the cards to get for"

    Yao
    Lebron
    Berkan
    Pujols

    Thanks in advance.

Oh what is the difference bwetween BGS and BCCGS grading?

Shot in the dark here, but I have a crap load of Starting Lineup figures from when I was a kid (baseball, basketball and football). Still in the boxes and in mint to near mint condition. I was just saying to myself the other day I should look into selling them and put the money toward my new house. Any interest in those let me know.

When i was young I got the first Mark McGwire. I was so pissed to see it selling for more than 200 bucks in a shop.

As for Yao and Lebron...........you would want the SP Authentic rookies which are numbered. They are gonna cost you plenty though....the Lebron in particular is limited to only 500.

As far as the pujols..........his high end rookie is 3,500.00 LOL so good luck trying to get that one.

If I were you..........I would look into soe of the older cards like Walter Payton's rookie which is only 250.00......and can be had on ebay for 100.00. Others like Joe montana or Roger staubach are in the 150.00 range but can be bought on ebay for 75.00. At least you KNOW what these HOF'ers did and dont have to worry about them getting hurt or their card dropping like a rock in value because its not the latest or hottest thing. I hope that helps!

Thanks man. You are right I do look at older players. Finding them in good shape is the hard part.

What is the difference between upper decks SP, SPX and SP authentic lines? When did card collecting get this freaking expensive.

Is stadium club even a good brand still?

Stadium Club? Not any more for baseball - not sure about the other sports.

For baseball, Bowman Chrome - preferably refractors, are the rookie cards to own. Refractor autos are the mega card to own if you have deep pockets.

Actually, Yao's rookie card from SP Authentic (autographed, #/1500) isn't his most valuable. I would say it's either SPx (auto, jersey,#/999; spectrum auto, jersey #/25) or Ultimate Collection (auto, #/300; parallel patch, auto, #/25).

LeBron is probably Exquisite or Ultimate Collection.

But if you're looking for something to pass onto your son, I recommend the older cards too, simlpy because today's card collecting market is not for kids, it's for older adults who can spend $1000 on a box of cards containing 3 cards...

I have this ridiculous Ryan Bowen card. He's neither black, nor a baseball player. LOL. This is probably worth a lot of money. Total misprint...

    (really?)

The prices have dropped dramatically off the highs from the mid 90s, but I still like to pick up a figure here an there.

Have any of the older 88-90 stuff?
