When you give blood, is this as good as getting an actual HIV test? What I mean is when they run the test on the blood and find out anything do they tell you? The reason I ask is because I have been in a steady relationship for almost 5 years now and it has been that long since I had a real HIV test done but I give blood or blood products regularly so I have kind of substituted that for the test I had done regularly although I slept around back then and I am a one-woman person now. So what I am asking is if they found anything wrong with my blood would they tell me or keep it private and only known to them?
So they would? See I always thought that they might not tell you so you would continue giving and they could use your blood for experimental purposes. That's in the manual they give you to read before you do it, that some donations are used for experimental purposes and other things.
The following post is rated PG-13. Those with sensitivities to this sort of stuff should not read. Spoiler Just so you know, unless you're into unprotected anal or needle use, it's pretty rare for a guy to get HIV from standard unprotected sex. Other stuff, that's a different story. Stuff like warts and the herp, a condom won't even help. I wouldn't trust giving blood as an HIV test, personally. But then again, I wouldn't have sex without a condom unless I'm in a committed relationship. That's just me.
This thread reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer has that cough, but doesn't want to see his regular doctor. Then he realizes a neighbor's dog has a cough, and takes in into the vet. He plans on using the medicine the vet gave for the dog, for himself.
Yeah, they tell you. I got jaundice when I was a kid in Asia and blood tests come back that I'm positive for Hepatitis antibodies (just like Pamela Anderson!). So they can't take my blood. I can donate plasma, however.
if anyone would get offended b/c of that spoiler, i will visit them personally and give them a nice cooter punch just being a douche.
Possible? YES. Probable? NO. Wouldn't YOU like to find THIS probability out, eh? ALWAYS protect yourself, mister.
I don't know how much peace of mind I would derive from a "surely they would have told me if something was the matter.... right?"
